Well I hope the advice involved being straight (at least to an extent) with HireRight because otherwise if they find out it could have consequences as I have said.

All it takes is for one of the managers in the branch, assuming you've gone for a branch based role, to remember the shop you worked in and that it closed down and it will raise questions. It does happen, and people working in banks chat to their customers!

I doubt it involves being straight. If it did, it doesn't need to be off the thread. But if it doesn't, that is the OPs problem. They've had plenty of correct advice, but they simply don't want to take it. Dismissal is so much harder to cover up, so if they are caught out, let's hope for their sake that it is before they have a job.

Keep it as it is, could be helpful to anyone else in a similar situation.

You say it doesn't matter as it a really old job but it does matter if your lying and they find out. They won't want a liar working for them they wouldn't trust you. Fess up say you were looking at your cv and realised an error was made

I don't think you know what a troll is. It isn't someone who points out that you are wrong and suggests the correct course of action is one you don't like.

Lying on your cv is risky at the best of times, but when applying for jobs in the financial industry it's just insane as it can get you dismissed and blackmailed. Some industries have people with access to people's money and can't risk employing anyone who has been dishonest already. As you did actually work at tge company, making out now that one of the dates on your cv is wrong due to a typo seems the best way to end the lies and not look dishonest.
