Crash helmet cam

Hi,

I'm looking at getting a cam for my motorbike and ideally would like one of those that attaches to your helmet. Really struggling to find anything or even the mounts they might go on.

Anyone know of anything at a sensible price please?

Would have thought you'd be "modifying" the helmet and thus possibly rendering it to give considerably less protection than it is designed to give.
I know people have them on push bike helmets, but they aren't a legal requirement and are presumably not required to offer the wearer a particular level of protection.

Cant see someone that chooses to wear a helmet would then make a change that would reduce the protection level.
    Straps through the air vents?
  • Ive seen shoulder type things but never them for sale.

Other thing is to find somewhere where I can mount it on the bike but theres not a lot there.

I would suggest you avoid fitting to your helmet.

Michael Schumacher's brain injury was caused by the mount for his Go Pro penetrating through his helmet and into his skull :(

This was bought up 2 years ago and there has been nothing at all since to confirm this as a contributing factor. He went off piste into an area filled with rocks.
I would strongly suspect that the manufacturer of the helmet he wore, would have a vested interested in pushing the blame onto something or someone else, as the alternative would undoubtedly involve being sued for millions of £.

OP the drift HD cameras are popular with bikers.

Regardless of Mr Schumacher, helmet manufacturers are very careful to design the helmets NOT to catch on irregularities, as the head rotation caused when a helmet picks up on something is a major cause of brain injury. My Shoei helmets both have flimsy plastic vents for this very reason - they will break and fly off in an impact, rather than digging into the road surface and spinning your brain within your skull like a top.

I would have thought sticking a hard plastic mount (and the adhesives are very good; they have to be) to a prominent point on the surface was the last thing you would do.

  • Think I will look for somewhere on the handlebars or mirrors.

I'm presuming you just unscrew them when you want to take them off?

That sounds like it's probably confused with Senna's fatal injuries, where a wheel came off on impact, with the suspension components still attached - and they penetrated his helmet.
