As I type this post from IPad Air, after using macbook pro's past few years.
I've been there an done it in terms of building/upgrading p.c.'s and MacBooks.
Since selling my late 2013 macbook pro i5/8gb ram/512 ssd/airport extreme Apple t.v. V3.
I have since found myself with no usb connectivity.
Any thoughts on the usability of a win10 laptop such as Asus ASUS E200HA 11.6" Laptop
Social: Basic computing on the go
Windows 10
Intel® Atom™ x5-Z8300 Processor
RAM: 2 GB
Storage: 32 GB eMMC
Usage required is ability to use my recently purchase usb 3 flash drive.
Required for Sony 4K firmware updates.

might be worth spending less on a decent refurb that'll be far more capable (like, have a proper processor and decent-sized hdd in it)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Interesting reply.
The only refurb product I purchased was from e-bay airport extreme, excellent when I required it.
What I'm trying to achieve is exceptionally low cost usb port use which is lacking via ipad air.
Are the atom processors a no-no in terms of home usage, do they actually run win 10 reasonably?Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -
Since read the specs of the mentioned Asus.
It seems to have everything I require 2* usb 3 and AC Wifi. And a return to Winows for a while.
Storage is not a consideration at all as I had via macbook 512 ssd and 500 external hd setup for time machine with airport extreme.
Currently I have 64 IPhone 6/16 Ipad air and a recently purchased usb 3.0 flash drive.
My Sony 43" 4k t.v. Was updated by driving a return 15 miles drive to download the firmware from parents laptop.
Thinking this we Asus may be helpful if and when required to use usb connectivity.
Any MSER's used such a low spec'd low cost laptop at home at all?
Currys owners reviews vary considerably from 'returned this laptop' to wish I had more memory storage etc'
As its sold with Win 10 surely there must be at least some basic usage?Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -
32GB SSD for OS is too small IMO.
Anyway, if you decided to go for ASUS E200HA, Amazon sell for £141.
Or if all you need is USB port & wifi, consider those 2 in 1 instead?
Edit: There is a post on HUKD about Dell black friday sales. Have a look at that.
£199 for i3 is a good deal.0 -
just a thought, do you need one or two USB ports to power your external hdd? If two, are they close enough together to be able to plug the hdd into the lappy? Some netbooks fell short on this as the USBs were at opposite ends of the case, so a typical 1-into-2 USB Y-lead for a lot of external hdds just couldn't be used (without USB extension cables)......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Thanks for the Amazon tip.just a thought, do you need one or two USB ports to power your external hdd? If two, are they close enough together to be able to plug the hdd into the lappy? I no longer have macbook/western digital external he'd setup though when I did until recently it was powered via single usb2 i think direct to extreme over wifi, that's where time machine only partly worked for continuous wifi backups of macbook ssd it was fine, re storing from external had was hit and miss as it was a non apple device.
To reiterate a inexpensive laptop with a usb socket will suffice hence considering Asus.
1 last question, can 32 gb hold and run win10+ms office?
Thanks in advance.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -

32 gb is very small just read this leaves approx 8 gb free though it's not a storage device I require, just using usb 3.0 with recently purchased flash stick will suffice.
Thanks for this shame it's only pre order via amazon or I would have had it delivered this weekend. I'll re consider thorough this week though has what I require at exceptionally low cost.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. Thanks mser's
I purchased a 199 ASus from currys this afternoon.
Win10 2gb ram 32gb ssd usb 3 ac wifi.
Not a bad return to windows at all since 2009 (at least from home)
Didn't get the white 179 one though all sold out at various local stores.
My usb flash drive works instantly which is nice as only used it once a few month ago via parents laptop for sony 4k tv update.
Didn't get free ms office subs, approx 18gb free space when I set up laptop today.
Tried free polaris office which loaded a home word doc I have-without a picture needed to look for office alternatives as mac pages displays this native. Word file fine.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -
Nice to know you've got one of these. I opted for the Chromebook route.
It would be interesting to know how you get on with this 2/32GB set up once you've had it a while and Win10 updates have made their mark.
