Event Cancelled. No Refund

Hi

Just after some advice please.

I was due to attend an event in London yesterday (19th November) and it was cancelled last minute on the evening of the 18th November via social media. The organisers simply said it was cancelled, no explanation and no mention of refunds (It was £90 a ticket and I'd estimate around 200-300 tickets were sold).

Since then the organisers have ignored phone calls and attempts to contact. Their personal social media accounts have all been deleted and so have events, groups and social media accounts for related events.

My question is, how do people go about making a claim for a refund for the ticket price? People are hundreds of pounds out of pocket and I realise we/they can't get all of that back, but the ticket money would be a start.

One of the issues is that the person seems to be opening and closing companies in the background like there is no tomorrow.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thank you x

Post links changing http to hxxp ... someone else will be able to make them clicky.

If you paid by card (credit or debit), contact your card provider to initiate a chargeback. Might not work, but is probably the best avenue you have if the people you've paid won't respond.

@post #3 ... section 75 with a credit card won't work here - the cost of a ticket was £90; section 75 needs the cost to be £100+

    Thanks guys

This is the 4th year the event has run - the lady running it is well known within our industry so no one really had worries about our money. I personally paid by bank transfer, though I think some may have paid my paypal.

It was for the British Plus Size Awards - whos website has been taken down today

I have a page of information I have been updating with info but I can't get it to post here, can I PM it to someone to post? Or Google "Wannabe Princess Plus Size Awards Whats Happened"

Really not a good look cancelling the event, the website, the social media etc all at once. The website is still partially visible through google cache if anyone wants it

Lots of results returned - none of the first page relate to What Happened.

As I've already said, copy/paste your link in a reply but CHANGE http to hxxp before submiting.

Okay, with the website down, I did a whois and it was registered by Big Girls Paradise in 2012. Big Girls Paradise doesn't seem to exist as a company however there is a BGP Ltd registered at the same address as the whois that was dissolved december 2014.

The only real director (the other two were only assigned for a day - likely creating the company on behalf of the third) was a linda christine koch - who has been registered as a director at a total of 4 companies - 2 dissolved, one is active and the other (curve media group) has a proposal to strike off against it.

Also to note it seems Linda has changed her name. A change of details was filed for the active company not being struck off in aug 2016 to change her name to lady linda wheatley (although I cant find any evidence of her actually being a lady). The address also changed from 1052 christchurch road to 1105 christchurch road. Both of those addresses on google maps has no signage letting you know what company is there or even what they do. The latter is a tiny little shop set between a butchers and hurley solicitors with a sign in the window for vibration/weight loss plates.

The notice to strike off was registered 1st Nov - there is a 2 month period in which you can object to the company being struck off. If no one objects, the company will be dissolved and its highly likely that any legal liability will dissolve with it (unless perhaps she was fraudulent in her dealings or something similar which might sway a judge to hold her personally liable rather than the company).
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
