Anyone care to join me in a bet about what was said at Tesco when the letter was read ? I think the word Weirdo would have been used but not in the context the OP was hoping for.0

This thread is ridiculous. SPectacle wearers don't need a support group.0
-
No but they do need ears for support. They may look wierd without them.
SIL wears glasses all the time and she looks wierd without them. Strange how we see people and small changes affect our perspective.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I'm surprised at the comments on here. Some people have to wear high level of correction lens, I am one of them. IMO these are in bad taste. But I accept I am in the minority here.0

I have just looked at the Tesco Website and these are Weirdo Glasses:

They have an picture of two eyes in the in the frames with a hole in the middle to look through.
They look nothing like regular glasses so that is why they are "weirdo" glasses. You are just making a fuss over nothing and I'm glad that Tesco realised that.
You must have a very boring life if you take so much offence at the slightest thing that you feel the need to make a complaint!0 -
I agree with the op, what's funny about my glasses

I can see their point but its finding the line these days.
I believe its that the glasses are making fun of people with certain apperances and personalities and myself being autistic have been called weirdo and worst words over the years for looking different such as either smiling to much or looking straight faced, or looking nerdy/weird because of my glasses.
So in that sense I don't think OP has overreacted in the slightest, I personally have not much problem with the glasses themselves rather than the stereotypes that come with them.0 -
Can't really see anything wrong with these particular glasses, however I do remember a couple of years ago being quite shocked to see Wilkos selling what were nicely termed 'Nerd Glasses', they consisted of strange looking glasses and buck teeth to go with them! Glad to see they no longer stock them.0

I'm struggling to understand why you find them offensive and felt the need to complain?
I wear glasses myself yet I wouldn't even dream of complaining about "weirdo" glasses being sold in a top supermarket.
These have been around for many many years, particularly in the joke shops.
How about Olive from On The Buses?! (Below) She was famously know for her specs! Nothing weird about them as they were a trend back in the day!
Would never occur to me as a glasses wearer to be even classed as a weirdo, no matter if they are a joke or not. So why would you?
Sheesh, why is everything so pc and offensive these days?"The truth is of course is that there is no journey.
We are arriving and departing all at the same time."0
