Do you mean taken on board the plane, in which case liquids are not usually a problem , or taken through security, where liquids are a problem?

I don't believe the situation with regards to liquids going through security has changed at all recently:

You can't take an elephant with you -- not even on a jumbo jet!

Or a tiger, zebra or a penguin.

The same restrictions have been in place for a number of years. Check the airports web page for restrictions or read the link posted.

To go with the excellent link from soolin, this may be of interest to anyone flying from Manchester:
Please note - if you wish to bring your own containers to hold 100ml or less, the container must have printed on it the measurement that the container can hold. Travel sets of containers that do not have measurements on them will not be allowed through security. Handwritten measurements or stickers are also not acceptable.

I think this is fairly new and may possibly be a rule exclusive to MAN.

I've always decanted liquids into my own containers, very few of which are labelled.
May have to rethink this from now on.

    Where are you flying to?

By 'left luggage' do you mean 'hold luggage'?

With only weeks away until the Christmas season....

    Rant mode ....

This is NOT america - it's Christmas, not 'holiday season'
The Holiday Season is (for most) in the summer.

    Rant over.
