Still paying contract when finished

I was in a 2 year contract with O2 but that ended in April and have still been paying the original tariff when the phone is already paid off. Does anyone know if there's a way of claiming this money back or do I just right it off?

  • Your contract didn't end in April, it just reached the end of its minimum term. If you wanted to end your commitment to your provider at the end of that minimum term you needed to give them 30 days notice prior to the end of the minimum term (March in your case). They will continue to take monthly payments until you end the contract with 30 days notice and you wont get a refund on payments made since April as you were (are) still under contract.

I believe some companies will reduce the monthly payment when the minimum term ends, as you no longer have to pay for the phone.

Virgin told my Dad they would do this, when his phone was coming up for renewal.

You only reached the minimum term so if you don't ring up and change the price plan, upgrade or move provider you'll be paying that original tariff price on an open ended basis.
