Mortgage / Divorce advice

My wife left me back in April 2016 and moved back in with her mum with the kids. The mortgage is currently in joint names but she is not paying anything towards the mortgage.
My mum has agreed to buy her out of the mortgage and pay it off in full with me paying the money back to her over time, she is refusing this although i had a valuation on the house and what was left was £5000 each i wouldn't be getting £5000 as i would still technically have to pay all the money back.
She is looking at getting her own property anyway which i can't understand why she is not willing to be bought out of the mortgage.
we are going to go through a divorcee is there any way in which this can be sorted without getting solicitors involved and because she walked out does she have any rights on the house now ????

Short answer is yes she does, regardless of whether she walked out or not.
If you can prove that you have been the main financier in relation to the mortgage then you may receive the greater share of any such deal but that would involve getting the solicitors involved.
If you don't want the solicitors involved and if you only have £5k left on the mortgage each then is it really worth the pain? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
