Who would take back a partner who walks out on his children and takes all the family's money with him and leaves their mother with such a mess to deal with?
I would hope that no one would but the first part of my post was...It's going to be difficult to prove that they have separated and expect to remain so.
I wrote the 2nd sentence to show that some couples will get back together.0 -

The police are reluctant to get involved in disputes between couples, especially where there is no violence involved, because by the time it gets to court few will give evidence against the other even if they haven't got back together by then. I suspect they would just say its a civil, not a criminal, matter.
