How much over the limit were you????
Doing 35 in a 30 limit seems to be OK, I got done for 37 in a 30 limit, unfamiliar with the country road and thought it was a 40 limit.
So when the letter arrives just get on with it and don't do it again.
If you go on that road again make sure the speed limit signs are all there, yesterday I drove on Sheffield Parkway, a dual carriageway, some a 50 limit but NO 50 repeater signs, just clearway signs, so good defense if caught speeding.

Sheffield Parkway has street lighting, so the absence of signs should be taken to indicate a 30 mph limit, not 70.
  • In 13 years driving I've been caught speeding once by a copper with a handheld gun. They didn't stop me but a week later I received the dreaded letter telling me I'd been doing 39 in a 30 zone but they weren't taking any action on that occasion. No idea why no action but no complaints from me and it did make me think more about my speed in residential areas.

Motorways- well that's a different story. I speed all the time, I drive long distance every week and I think the speed limit at 70 is too low in this day and age. I take the risk but if I get caught I'll hope I'm going slow enough for a speed awareness course to avoid the points. I do however slow down significantly in heavy rain, I aquaplaned on the motorway once when I was younger and learnt my lesson. Driving on a dual carriagewaylast week in torrential rain and I stuck in the left lane at 60. Everyone passed me, I felt like miss daisy but in a 20 mile stretch I passed 3 accidents, the last held me at a standstill for 90 minutes and the news reported life changing injuries. But I digress from the op.
  • Are you sure it was a copper who got you with a gun, many places use the NHW to stand around with a speed gun wearing yellow, if they clock you only a warning letter.
