Aren't you pedantic. How helpful of you. It amounts to the same thing - you cant drive unless you renew it.0

I have to renew every 3 years. I certainly don't remember having to renew every ten though.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I never noticed before but my photo driving licence is dated sept 2011 and the renewal date is jan 2017.
They are supposed to be renewed every 10 years.
Any ideas why my mine needs to be renewed after only 5 years 4 months?
If so (or similar) I wonder if the ten year anniversary counts from the date of the actual photocard issue, and not a re-issue.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

If you got a free change then the previous photo date probably applies. If you paid for a change then the 10 year clock may be reset.
(Is my guess). My licence expires in 2035, but the photocard needs renewed in 2023.0 -

Given the digital manoeuverings, have you applied for a passport in the last 5 years?
Could be that that's tripped it.0 -

So can I drive while my licence is renewed?
According to a DVLA spokesman, qualified drivers are still entitled to drive a vehicle if their licence has expired, but what they must be aware of is that they could be charged with the offence of failing to renew their licence. If the matter went to court, then the motorist could end up with a £1,000 fine. The spokesman went on to say that the reason photocard licences needed to be renewed every ten years was because people's faces would change over that period, so updates are essential.

I love it how the dvla fail to acknowledge the fact you could also be done for failing to prouduce the licence too.0 -
