Pania, if you a "stranger" to the land, ie in legal terms some-one who has no rights over the land such as a neighbour, then "severing" anything from that land is still theft in law. This includes grass and plants, even topsoil. He doesn't have to physically take it with him to commit theft, he just has to have an intention of "permanently depriving YOU of it". So this is a classic case of theft. However, there are some difficulties in getting the police to prosecute, namly costs and public interest. But you could give it a go. I suspect you would need to quote the 1968 Theft Act in exact words to get your local police to act on it in these circumstances, as it is not a usual run of the mill case of theft as most people know it.unsecured Debts at [strike]August 2007 £79,984[/strike] September £79,579 [STRIKE]Snowballing date July 2013[/STRIKE].

I think you should try to get legal advice on this Pania or maybe speak to the council
. I used to rent a cottage and when the neighbours wanted to cut their hegde they had to get permission from me to get onto 'my' land. I think he was trespassing coming onto your land and then dumping his waste. Your neighbour sounds like a complete rat. Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
That said Pania, I am assuming your landlady owns the hedges and would want to make a complaint. If he owns them it isn't theft, just trespass (civil not criminal)unsecured Debts at [strike]August 2007 £79,984[/strike] September £79,579 [STRIKE]Snowballing date July 2013[/STRIKE].

As has previously been said, I'd just dump it in his garden, preferably on his drive so he has to move it get his car out

Looking on the bright side for you and your landlady, although he didn't go about it in the right way, very rude man, it has saved you the job and expence of cutting the hedge - and its sounds as though it was a big job.
It will do the hedge good - lots of new shoots. My OH cuts ours like that every three years or so and they always come back.
Personally I wouldn't bother taking it any further. You'll only cause yourself stress. But I would have a really good bonfire when the wind is in the right direction;)

i've always thought that if a tree or other shrubbery was over hanging your property, then your allowed to cut it down providing that you give them back what you've cut off, so therefore if you were to return the branches etc you would be right. If you were to dispose of them you'd be theiving half of his hedge even though you didn't cut it.
if the woodchopper said he couldn't (or rather wouldn't) take them away as it would be theiving then how can the woodchopper be theiving the owners own stuff?? the only thing i can see wrong here is that he's tresspassed on your property. The neighbour who hiored him should've come and told you or asked you if you'd like your side of his hedge snipping (or torchering by the sounds of it!!)0 -
So, party round yours on Friday then?
