My Samsung Galaxy Note 2014 went wrong during the second year and Samsung are refusing to honour the 24 month warranty that it came with. It cost £350 when bought brand new. It has **not** been damaged by me in any way and is in physically mint condition.

Needless to say I won't touch anything from Samsung again with a barge pole. You have been warned, they don't honour their warranties!

Don't take my word for it, search for their "service" provider Anovo, in Norwich, and see the feedback for yourself.

I agree with comments above. If she is going to use it for serious schoolwork that involves lots of typing, she needs a laptop with a decently sized screen and a full keyboard.

Tablets are fine for emailing and making short notes but if she is writing an essay or reading long extracts from the internet then she will soon realise the limitations.

I use a tablet most of the time, but if I want to do some serious work I get the laptop out and, if it involves extended typing I attach a proper keyboard.

FYI you can get full size keyboard and mouse that will connect to any decent Android tablet.

I'd suggest you hold on a little bit. The Galaxy Tab S3 will likely be released in Jan/Feb (it's already overdue), and the S2 8inch price should drop back to around £220 shortly, especially with black friday and XMas sales (it was £220 previously, then shot up to £300 for no apparent reason).

I have, T810 S2 9.7 failed within two months. Unit replace and then fine.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

£220 was probably a sale price for the s2. £300 will be the current normal price. We got it on Black Friday last year, normal price was £319, we paid £219.
  • I also have two daughters (and a son). Over the past couple of years, I've bought them all tablets for their birthdays. They all had Asus MemoPad tablets. My son had an 8" version (similar version is currently £99 from Currys) and my daughters wanted the 7" versions (currently £89 from Currys). I was so impressed with these, I also treated myself to a 7" Asus tablet (same model as my daughters had). They are great for YouTube, games, social media - and you can download Office apps for word processing, etc. We've never had any problems with any of the four tablets (and they're all between 18 months and two years old now) and the battery life is very good. HOWEVER, if you are serious about wanting your daughters to use tablets for written homework, then you will have to buy them a wireless / bluetooth keyboard. This would be the case for any brand of tablet! Search Ebay - you can buy these brand new with delivery for £10 or less. Personally I much prefer the look and feel of the Asus tablets vs Samsung - and of course the Samsungs are a lot more expensive but basically do the same thing. Hope that's a help :)
