thanks everyone - i enabled the usb in bios and it didnt do anything and tried the other tips to no avail, ill pass onto another friend who will change the hd for her then for less than the shop quoted her thanks so much. Microsoft seemed as though he knew he about the problem lol, no wonder he was so eager for my comments on his help after the chat. thanks all.0
