Sxi model has alloys so brake disc and pad condition could have been observed by OP pre purchase to establish the condition yourself. I always carry a compact mag light when buying cars to inspect break, under body and exhaust condition I also factor in the age and tread depth of tyres in my decision to buy or price negotiations.

    Age? Price?

That's the emissions. You don't get given a checksheet for the rest of the test. But the brakes are a fairly minimal standard anyway. The wheels aren't removed for the test, so the pads and discs would only be checked if they're visible.

Pads and discs are absolutely a consumable. If he said it'd had new brakes, then he lied - but did you get that in writing?

Grounds for rejection? Not even close. New set of discs and pads is cheap (£40ish for discs and pads) and quick to fit (if there's no problems, then an hour or so all in). Dead easy DIY, too.

by all means im no mechanic, where could i purchase the disc brakes and pads?

3mm = they are not below the minimum yet. Discs lipped, yes sir they do that, but it seems you failed to measure them and you will find they too are within spec.

Probably depends on how much the car cost and the profit they made on it.

Brake pads are at twice the MOT failure limit and a lip on the discs will at worst get an MOT advisory. I think that you'll be in the realms of good will from the dealer and if you go in shouting the odds about rejecting the car over what is a wear and tear problem, they may not want to assist in replacing the discs and pads.
  • Talk nicely to the dealer and you'll probably fare better than if you go in loudly with a list of your perceived 'rights' in this matter.

Wait until tomorrow and see, but don't lose any sleep over it - it's not the end of the world.

We know the secret identity now, he cannot resist posting in his own threads.

So you bought a ficticious used car with ficticious used parts attached, used but not worn out?

How is 3mm metal on metal? There is 3mm left before it gets to metal. That maybe 3,000 or 5000 or 25,000 miles away.

And you have not told us what the discs measured? Thety will have wear limits also.

They recommend the pads be replaced at 1.5mm, but thats only a guide so you dont wear them to the metal. Discs can be 2mm thinner than a new one and still be within spec, so a deep ridge is not a sign of doom.

The person that advised you they are 3mm and metal on metal is the one you need to hide your money from.

I can see from here your clutch is seriously worn, thats a £3000 job on your car. I can fit you in anytime you like it will only take me 20 minutes.
