I agree with you BTW - the 'honour' or 'thanks' is given when the recipient is deemed worthy. Whatever they subsequently do, doesn't necessarily mean that they didn't perhaps deserve it when it was given.
I don't think people were talking about a situation where you've thanked a post - but then gone back to remove your thanks because you've seen other posts by the same poster, which has changed your view of the poster.
I've often thanked posts made by posters whose views are diametrically opposite to mine. Or whose views I generally find repugnant. If I think the post has a good point well made, I'll thank it.
However - and I think this is the point which is being made by others - if I thanked a post based on its content, and the poster then edited it to drastically change the content, I might well consider removing my thanks.0
