Credit score excellent but credit card ap rejected

My 0% deal ended a few months ago so in summer begin looking for new deals and applied to Sainsburys bank. I was accepted but they kept losing my ID, my credit agreement and after numerous calls in a very busy period of my life, I gave up. After my current deal ended and I had paid the amount off in full, I contacted them to sort it out only to find the offer had expired, to clarify I did not receive the card and of course did not spend on it. I was then told I would have to start from scratch.
I then checked my credit file and all seemed in good order with no loans, ccj's and a very high credit score. I checked the MLMSE guide to applying for a credit card and chose the one I had best chance of getting. Rejected. I applied via Noddle credit agency for the one they said I would get and rejected again.
HELP!! I daren't apply for another. I have nothing on my credit card whose deal has ended but this has now gone to a very high interest rate and I want a 0%

  • Ignore your score. It's a little secret between you and the CRA and doesn't count for anything.

What is on your credit files? Income, credit history, balances and limits. Are you on the electoral roll?
  • Well, I've looked and I have no loans, every DD S/O are up to date and paid on time. I moved house a year ago and voted so presume I am on the electoral register but will check. I have renewed by insurance policies etc this month.....
Just worried now that 2 rejections will alter my credit rating and I won't be able to apply for a credit card and I want to save money by changing my mobile phone provider and now I fear applying
  • Ps thank you for responding 😃
  • What is your current debt, total limits and income? If payments are a problem, you may be over stretched.
  • The only debt I have is my mortgage, £850 a month plus bills.
    Income £37000

Sorry - I thought you were looking for a 0% to transfer a balance.

So to clarify - you're after a 0% purchases card? Is it for anything in particular? How long would you need to clear the balance? What sort of limit do you need?

Also - which two cards did you apply for?

Does the Sainsbury's card show on your credit reports?

Yes, just a 0% to use for purchases with no balance to bring across.
I applied for the ones that I was "guaranteed" to get. Virgin 27 month 0% and post office with a similar length. Nothing in particular but incase I need anything and can't pay it in full immediately
Sainsburys shows up as a credit check but not as a credit card.
  • I'm no expert but from reading these forums:

Have you checked all 3 CRA's? Not all of them might have the same information?
Make sure electoral roll addresses are fine on all 3 CRA's, this seems to be the easiest way to get a quick rejection.
National Hunter provides some more information that might help you find weird issues but you have to pay them £10 afaik for the report.
If all else fails, you can try sending an appeal letter call explaining why you should get approved (search forum for examples)

    Hope it helps :)
