Buying some USD's as a gift

Friend has asked for some USD's for Xmas as she is going to New York for her birthday.
We may even get her some more for her B'day
I'm sure we could just go to 'the post office' and buy some notes, but would a pre-paid card be a better MSE option, and could we 'load' it again later??

A suitable prepaid card would be better than buying cash, but your friend would have to obtain it and load the funds herself. Cards can be used for almost everything in the US, so giving cash USD is a nice idea but not very 'MSE' because of what you lose on the rate to buy it and then lose again to exchange back any that's unused, unless it's spent needlessly instead.
