I've got about half-a-dozen packets of different vege meals in the cupboard, including a couple of nut roasts, that i got from Asda. They've been there for ages, the type of thing i'll buy if i'm stuck one night. I must check the dates on them and eat them.

My vegetarian friends are fed up with "vegetarian versions" of ANYTHING! They honestly prefer if I just do them lots of yummy veg instead. SO a really good mix of potatoes, carrots, parsnips (ok keep them in a separate tray!), cabbage or sprouts, vegetarian stuffing balls (mine are anyway but maybe not everyones are?) and I do peas and sweetcorn too...

They look pained whenever someone wants to make them a vegetarian roast or wellington or frankly any dish that was designed to focus on meat... :) Just a thought
There will be lots of veg too but...I don't know, a pile of veg just doesn't seem very exciting, however nicely it's cooked!

This is something a bit different and absolutely gorgeous. No one in my family is vegetarian so turkey for us all the way on Christmas day. However, we do enjoy this at other times.

This looks great, I will run this one past a few of the other guests and see if it meets approval!

LOL each to their own I guess :D I often go for vegetarian options - especially at Christmas as usually there is turkey or veggie - and I can't stand turkey! :rotfl:

How about making mini pastry parcels with mushrooms but shape it like a small bird? Humor value ;)

I used to have the same thing every Xmas, I'm jot veggie any more, but I'd happily have it again.

It was a sort of mushroom stroganoff but with a bit of Stilton melted in (is Stilton a veggie cheese?) and with a savoury crumble topping. Was fab with the usual sprouts, parsnips etc.

I have the same issue. Teenage daughter became Vegetarian earlier this year. Faddy as a meat eater, she didn't became less so when she decided to eliminate meat and fish! I think her initial plan was to be a Vegetarian that didn't like veg. It's taken 6 months of trial and error to get to a place where I actually know her likes/dislikes.
She still doesn't like as many different vegetable as the meat eaters do. She doesn't like mushrooms or nuts or anything spicy, which eliminates quite a few veggie recipe alternatives. There are shades of vegetarians not all love every veg and are quite happy to just eat them.

Someone posted a Delia roulade on the old style board as a Christmas vegetarian meal, but it contains parsnips which you've said is a no, but I wondered if that could be substituted for something else. I'd ask on there though as there might be a reason for it being parsnip that you'd lose if using another veg.

Have you had a look through this website for ideas

I like the look of these savoury pancakes

However, I'd leave out the cilantro (coriander) as I can't stand the stuff!

Yes, just because someone is a vegetarian there is no reason to give them a main dish which just contains vegetables.

A balanced meal contains protein too, even for vegetarians!

We do a version of this carrot & mushroom loaf.

I like something to go with lots of veg, stuffing and (veggie) gravy. :)
  • How about a goats cheese and red onion tart? It won't go with gravy but should complement the stuffing, roasties etc :)
