Plus over 100 threads on this already. There really is no need to create a new thread to recommend something that's already in one of the website's main articles, mentioned numerous times in the security sticky and talked about on this board daily. I'd also disagree with the statement that it's the best free AV. There's also Avast and Antivir and I don't think AVG is better than either of those. There's nothing wrong with posting a good recommendation so long as it isn't one that's mentioned all the time already.

I only joined this forum half an hour ago so i didn't know about the "sticky's", and AVG is by far the best free anti virus as it uses less memory whilst running in the background and i see that you have to download a seperate uninstall utility to remove all registry entries with AVAST, AVG is the best.

    Thankyou

We've just installed AVG (?) the only problem is it doesn't have parental control which our old system did (Norton) From past experience if we try to iinstall parental control from elsewhere (free to download) it clashes with other installed software and causes problems. Can anyone help with advice of how to get round this problem?

    I'm afraid your wrong.

Unless you can provide me evidence that AVG uses less memory running in the background....

I believe the scanner I use Anti Vir is better. I wouldnt say its by far the best.. because it does the job, like AVG and Avast.

Be open about whats on the market.

What type of parental control are you looking for exactly? :)

Can't realy see why parental control is needed with antivirus, maybe you previous norton software had a firewall which is used to block hackers, malicious sites or any site you don't want young ones to see, i recommend sygate personal firewall, its 100% free also and has been used by the military which mean it's damn good!

Hi thanks for replying. One that stops us being to access sites that would be unsuitable for our children of 11 and 7. Actually I've also just remembered that we seem to be getting pop-ups and adverts which we never did with Norton.

There are also some posters on here that think that AVG's poor detection is demonstrated by the amount of people coming on this board with trojan problems and AVG already installed. I was sceptical of that at first but I'm beginning to agree with them. Moot point for me as I use NOD32.
