Got my letter today. I was largely using the card as backup for non-Amex accepting retailers and foreign travel, so looks like the Nationwide card is the one I should move to (0.5% flat CB, no foreign fees, no card fee).
Something to sort out after Christmas...0 -

The Nationwide Select Credit Card has got to be one of the best cards out there right now.
As well as the benefits you mention, there is no balance transfer fee and 0% interest on both balance transfers and purchases for the first 12 months. I think this may be unique as it means you have a BT card that you can also use for purchases without incurring interest Available for people with a qualifying current account.

So let me get this straight, if I spend £300 a month at the supermarket (= £3pm cashback) and I spend (at least) £100 a month on petrol (£3pm cashback) that totals £6 a month cashback. Minus the £3 per month fee and I make £3 a month from the card.
Compared to putting that £400 through my Amex card at 1% where I would make £4 cashback on it.....?
Is that right or am I missing something?A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -

Assuming you've an American Express Platinum Cashback Card without the Annual Fee of £25 surely that option is a better bet (assuming the places you frequent accept it).
That's why I ditched my Santander 123 CC a while ago; I wasn't spending enough on it each month to cover the £3/month fee AND see a slight credit on my statement each month.
I did wonder if/when they'd cap everyone at the same rate as those who applied for the card after September 2015.It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
I think I will be ditching mine. I have been monitoring the cashback and due to our frugal food bill and reduction on petrol bills we have only been getting around £3 cashback anyway which only just covers the fee.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Another evidence that Santander 123 is no longer attractive.
I remember someone here has a strong claim that Santander 123 WILL end up with more customers, where many threads in this MSE have proven it otherwise. Hopefully they would still stand firm to their strong opinion ...0 -
+1 on the ditch it bandwagon.
I used to cash in on the 3% fuel due to a high mileage commute. I've now changed jobs, and not even using half of what I was before.
Couple this with the caps and £3 fee, there is quite literally no point anymore.
I think I'll cancel it and find something else with better benefits.0 -
Has Santander quietly reduced the scope of opportunity to earn cashback?Seems to me that some retailers have been removed from the list of places to earn e.g. cannot find entries for Boots or Wilko, but am sure I was earning from them previously0

Wilko never was on the cashback list.
The original deal on the 123 Credit Card was 1% in Supermarkets, 2% in Department Stores and 3% on fuel and travel up to £300.
While Wilko does indeed sell food, it's not a supermarket per se as its main focus is homeware ad household goods, but its not classed as a supermarket.
Boots is classed as a pharmacy though they do do hearing and sight stuff and health&beauty stuff.
Admittedly a lot of these chains now that started just doing one thing have branched out into doing other things aka mini-supermarkets if you like, but officially they're not classed for cashback purposes on the 123 card.0
