Windows 10 & network share access denied - Solution?

  • esuhl - thanks, I won't change the registry. The method of sharing using passwords is setting up a Homegroup I think. Don't have thisset up and, as I said 2nd PC accesses nas drive OK.

    Windows Explorer shows:
Top (Computer) 2 blue screen/keyboard icons - My PC and Seagate (nas drive)

    Middle (Media Devices (4)
SCSS DLNA Server (icon looks like MP3 player with headphones)
SoundTouch 20 (icon looks like a hard drive)
WDTV (icon looks like MP3 player with headphones)
WDTV Live (Icon looks just like the WDTV box)

Bottom Huawei Home Gateway (Not sure what this is. I had a MIFI from Three a while back which is a Huawei device I think)

Both PCs are Dell XPS18s and wireless. I've got them side by side now and the settings in Settings seem the same.
  • Had the same. Disconnect the network drive.

In Windows credentials, delete the password for the drive.

Reconnect to the drive, re enter passwords.
  • Thanks. When you say disconnect network drive do you mean disconnect nas drive from router?

Looked at Windows Credentials. No credentials are set up, just Generic Credentials. No passwords previously required.
  • No. disconnect in windows. Sorry, I have been out!

Have you checked the NAS manufacturers website for updates? Have seen a couple of people fail to get to grips with this sort of thing.

Microsoft is in charge of the OS, but device manufacturers are not all keeping up to date with the latest in Win10.
  • Suddenly it works!!
I don't know if it was this but earlier I disconnected the WDTV Media Player from the router and reconnected it. Can't think of anything else that could have caused it.

Thanks all for taking the trouble to post.

Possibly an IP address clash. If the same thing happens again, try rebooting the router.
