How does everyone play music these days? I must be missing something!

Will your car radio control the ipod/iphone? I bought a 64Gb ipod touch with a smashed screen for £15, put all my music on it, and I leave it connected to the car permanently, using the radio controls to operate the ipod.0

It sounds like the OP is connecting the iPhone with a 3.5mm audio connection.0

New cars don't even come with a CD player.......This is why people like you and me still need a pc/laptop with a CD/DVD burner on it, a decent ripping program, and create your own CDs for in the car....none of the services mentioned above have the sort of stuff I listen to (which are mainly smaller bands who may not have been around for long, and release everything DIY anyway) so cd burning is essential
Forward to the future......;):D:cool:Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

My car's 2 years old, so quite new. It came with just a CD player though we could have upgraded to the infotainment/Bluetooth stuff for a cost (I wish I had now!). There's no USB, just the round pin type. When I plug in the iPhone, I can control the volume using the car radio controls but nothing else.
I'm not sure what type of music I want. I like all sorts of things and friends have said my taste is 'a weird mix of everything'. I've bought about 3 songs on iTunes in the last couple of years but I only found those whilst watching movies and liking one of the songs.
I think signing up to Spotify premium and buying a new smartphone with a memory card would probably be the simplest solution (and I do need it to be idiot proof). It just seems so expensive when I'll probably only download a few songs a month.0 -
I can't blame my ignorance of all this on age, as I'm not really that old. I don't think so anyway 😁.
My friends and I all had mobiles when we were at school as teenagers. Though they were basic non-smart phones. I was given an MP3 player for Christmas one year but I ended up having to get someone else to put music on it for me, as I gave up trying.0 -

Another reason to only spend £3-400 on a car then, I can put my radio/cd/usb player in it
;D ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Reet GJ?
My latest car doesn't have a cd player........... still got the original cassette/radio fitted, and it will stay like that.
ps. from my first van still have Radiomobile 1070 MW/LW 5 push buttons for storing stations, £17:eek:, around a weeks take home pay in 1974.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
@OP: I think your issue is not so much the technology, but the fact that you do not know what music you like, and therefore need a service to offer you a selection of things.
Spotify Premium is expensive, especially if you'll be getting a new phone and maybe mobile data upgrade just for that.
I'd be tempted to have a browse through the CDs in Poundland (yes, they are only £1). You could have 10 CDs for the price of one month on Spotify.
If your car is only 2 years old, it's quite likely that it can play Data CDs as well as music ones. I had a previous car like that. I could burn a Data CD which held 12 normal CDs worth of music on it, and therefore managed to squeeze my entire music collection into a single CD wallet.
I think in your position, I'd be seeking out a more technically-minded friend/relative and asking for help getting this sorted out.0 -

Amen to that!
PS I'm never allowed to choose the music at parties as apparently I'm just too weird. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
