When to exchange GBP > USD

Hi all,

Hope someone will be able to help me out with this question. I have absolutely NO idea about exchange rates and NO idea what a good deal looks like. I have read about it but my brain literally does not comprehend anything about fluctuating inflation rates/exchange rates.

Please could someone advise when the best time to exchange pounds to dollars would be or at least what signs should I wait for when exchanging money?

Thanks xx

A wizzard once told me that Thursday was the best day ... ;):D;)
  • Focus on getting the best value plastic for overseas transactions. Clarity from Halifax for example. There's a link with more at the top of the page.

Focus on using the card for purchases rather than cash.

Where you do head to an ATM for cash seek out TD Bank, McDonald's and Credit Unions.

No points second guessing exchange rates. Just make sure you can access the available rate as cheaply as possible.

Unless you enjoy having foreign cash at home to admire, I suggest that you wait until you arrive somewhere where you can spend the dollars -- Cambodia or Sierra Leone.

Erm, what? Unless you're planning to buy a small village that's waaaay too much money.

There's no shortage of USD ATMs in the major cities/resorts and hotels at least will take card payments.

If you're intent on exchanging cash make sure the notes you receive are in absolutely perfect condition, otherwise they will not be accepted.
