Nexus 7 replacement

My trusty old mk 1 Nexus 7 is in need of replacement. I would like something with a slightly bigger screen,16 GB is mine memory size, most definitely don't want any form of iPad, always used Android, suits me fine. Looked at Nexus 9 a while back, but most seem to be used, and asking prices on Ebay are still expensive for used ones. Only alternatives I see are Samsung, but there range is very confusing, can't work out old from new models, did have Samsung mobile a while back, full of junk which you couldn't delete, are tablets the same?. Amazon Kindle with larger screen look good, but no Google Play store on for apps is disappointing. Any other suggestions appreciated. Don't mind mint used machine,or manufactory return or outlet sake.

What about a Windows Tablet? You can dualboot/VM Android on it and even run some iOS apps on them.

But if you're after Android only: the Nvidia Shield Tablet and ACER Predator 8 are good for gaming too. SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is a good all rounder and the SONY Xperia Z4 Tablet and GOOGLE Pixel C are if you're feeling flush.

Is it damaged, or just running really slow? If the latter - my Nexus 7 is still flying, but I have never updated the Android system, this has kept it super fast!

Why not wipe it to factory settings, dont install any updates, boom you have basically a new tablet.

Hello Zola - If there are any easy to follow instructions where can I find how not to allow any updates to be installed, Please? With some struggling I have done a Nexus 7 2012 factory restore, thanks.

If it prompts you that an update is available, just ignore

You may get a Samsung Galaxy Tab s2 with an 8 inch screen at a decent price on Black Friday as there is an S3 due out soon. Currently they are £299 at John Lewis (and others) but this is a prime item for a good reduction.

The S2 has 32 gb of storage (plus an sd card slot) and 3 gb of ram. The screen is one of the most detailed I have seen and comes out as a Which best buy.

Replacement for a mk1 Nexus 7? A mk2 Nexus 7 of course! Far faster, better screen, camera added. Still a good tablet after all these years. Runs Marshmallow great, but won't be getting Nougat.
Still in Argos if you must have brand new...

Thanks, ballyblack. I thought, if left, the updates still downloaded 'on their own.' I'll just ignore and hope it helps.
