Is it possible to have a cutlery drawer under an induction hob

Im in the process of having our old kitchen ripped out. I really wanted to have a large cutlery drawer inside the top of my pan drawer but as I'm having an induction hob above it's not possible. I've even considered putting the cutlery drawer inside the bottom pan drawer but don't think it will be right in there.
Has anyone been able to do this, is there some sort of shield we can put beneath the induction hob. Thanks for any advice

  • ah hadn't thought about this, our cutlery drawer is below a ceramic hob at the moment and I have purchased an induction hob to fit in the near future. I take it heat is the issue rather than the depth of the hob?

  • I think it's something to do with magnetic field and metal cutlery.

I have a cutlery drawer under my induction hob. It doesn't affect the hob in any way. I actually never gave this a thought until I saw your post, my kitchen was fitted over a year ago by a local independent kitchen company who I hope might have alerted me to any possible problems.
  • The induction hob I fitted required a 50mm air space between the underside of the hob and whatever was fitted under it. The cutlery draw should be fine provided it's below a shelf which is at least min 50mm below the hob.
Also needed a minimum 5mm x 600mm vent under the front of the worktop to allow warm air to be blown out by the cooling fan fitted in the hob. This of course needs another vent to allow the circulation of cool air which has to be drawn in from somewhere behind or below.
  • My cutlery drawer is immediately beneath my (broken) induction hob and I've never had any problems.

That sounds like a bit of a contradiction? :)

Yes! As long as there is the required ventilation you won't have a problem.

All the electronics sit below the magnets & are shielded from the magnetic field above... there is little chance of any damage being caused by cutlery beneath the hob.

Our cutlery drawer is below the induction hob. No problems.

We do not have a shelf between or any ventilation slots.
