S7 Edge water damage

I purchased a new a Samsung S7 Edge in April this year. Three months ago the display ceased working (black / green screen) and so it was sent to my local Samsung agent and repaired under warranty. One month ago the display again packed up (black / green screen) and so was sent to the same Samsung agent for repair. 4 weeks later I've received an email from the Samsung agent saying the phone has water damage and is beyond economical repair. I've spoken to Samsung who say water damage is not covered by the warranty and so will be returned to me. The phone was dropped in a bowl of water before the second screen failure (almost identical to the Samsung TV advert) but this should not have caused water damage as the phone should be water resistant to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. I suspect very strongly that the screen / phone was not correctly sealed after the first repair. Has anyone else incurred water damage to their S7 or S7 Edge either before or after repair??

Water damage is not unknown on Smartphones .
Thats why the phones have water indicators inside .0 -
Ive gone diving with my S7 edge and no issues suspect its a fitting issue on the phone that has caused this.0

I'm certain too but its my word against Samsung and they're not relenting.
The phone is on its way back to me now.
I've made a claim on my phone insurance which they've approved (so far) but ironically I've got to send the phone to the same repairer where its been sat for the last few weeks...0 -
Ask for the photos of the evidence of the water indicators .0

Interesting, I'm having the same nightmare with the Samsung repair centre at present.
Purchased an S7 Edge just over 6 months ago, it started locking up last week and was then completely unresponsive until the battery ran out.
Took it to the repair centre, they flashed the firmware but was still giving intermittent issues, so took it in again.
They then said there was water damage as there is evidence of corrosion on the usb connector and want £400 to replace mainboard and screen.
I did go down to the repair centre to make a formal complaint to the manager as the phone has never been in water to any significant degree beyond the everyday exposure to moisture that every phone has, ludicrous for that to cause an issue with an IP68 rated phone.
Manager apologised for how it was handled and they will send off to do a proper analysis of the fault but I still get the feeling I'm going to get the same answer in the end, it seems to be a handy get out of jail free card for them with respect to the warranty.
They also confimed that the sensor wasn't showing any water exposure and they hadn't even bothered to open the phone to see if there actually was any internal water damage beyond the external corrosion.0 -
Photos of the external corrosion would proof water damage .0

Not really proof that it has caused any internal issues related to my performance issue though.
The phone clearly wasn't exposed to significant amounts of water hence the water indicator not showing anything, I just fund it farcical that IP68 apparently means !!!!!! all in terms of warranty (and the area supposedly affected by corrosion still works as I charge the phone by USB every day).
My personal highlight though was quoting £400 for repairs without even opening the phone to get an idea of what issues might be occurring.
It's my first Samsung phone and also my first supposedly water resistant one, oddly enough I never had water issues with any other one in spite of using them in exactly the same way, maybe I'll be going back to HTC with my next one, my previous 5 phones from them never had a reliability problem between them.0 -
Dont forget your consumer rights .
One you have a Samsung warranty that is subject to the terms and conditions they impose .
Two your consumer rights are against the vendor not Samsung . You would need an independent report if going down the CR route as its over 6 months .0 -

Thanks, they have agreed to look at it again and I haven't heard anything since so I'll have my fingers crossed anyway!0
