A cheaper option is to list CDs or DVDs on ebay.com. You will pay higher listing fees, but lower success fees than on ebay.co.uk."Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0

Hundreds of people have tried before, but even with the publicity that Tazbar and eBid have, they don't even register on and rankings compared to eBay.
The only auction sites that are in anyway sucessful are niche sites that specialise in one specific area, like adult products, football programmes, out of print books or vintage car parts for example.
I know, it was a tongue in cheek remark! - I did a whole case study on the monopoly of eBay at university. Very interesting, for those that want to read more about it just google it - i'd say many die hard eBay'ers here would find it fascinating.
Do you know of a specialist football programme auctions site? I have HUNDREDS (1000s?) of old football programmes i'd like to offload.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I have had enough of paypal and eBay this week. They really arent helping little sellers.
They're not helping big sellers either. Most of my items sell for £3-5, in the health and beauty category, you are forced now to sell with paypal. I avoided PP because of the fees, but now HAVE to use it (how wrong!!!)
You'd think that the EU would pull up ebay over this, as it's clearly anti competitive.0 -

Anti - competitive? what do you mean by that (literally dont understand the term Im a thicko sorry!!!)
As far as I'm concerned by forcing certain categories to pay by paypal its just making more money for eBay - but they arent interested when I've got NPB left right and centre! The NPB should be made to pay your insertion fee at the very least if they dont pay!!! Is there actually anywhere where I could voice my opinion to the gods that be of eBay??

there are EU rules about companies elbowing out other companies, in this case other methods of payment. eBay are forcing you to hand over 3% of your sales with no other option - thats called daylight robbery where i'm fromHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. There's a way round this.

Put your DVD's and CD's on at auction for just 1p and charge £5.00 for postage (which is high I know)
Clearly state in your auction that bidders must be happy with the postage/shipping charges before they bid.
Even if your item sells for just 1p you should make roughly £3-4 profit on the postage alone and e-bay will get zilch in commission fees.
I've done this before and it works.
Are people prepared to £5 for postage? Yes. They realise they are getting a bargain on the item and paying for it through the high postage. This is similar to how the TV auction channels work.
Hope this helps.0 -
nice - isn't that what 1centCDs did, sold CDs for $0.01 BIN and then wacked on the P&P. I think eBay have people watching out for this tactic and squash it don't they?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. You can get away with it so long as your postage prices are "reasonable"
I would say £5.00 is the maximum you could charge without attracting their attention or buyer complaints. Most buyers winning the auction at 1p would be delighted and only a small minority would balk when it arrives at their door and has a 60p stamp attached.

I'm beginning to feel I'm being wound up today..recommending using fee avoidance to save money hardly seems like good business practice if all that happens is that you get warning on your account and then a suspension.
Strangely enough a lot of buyers look on the inflated postage charges as a sign that all is not well with a seller. Have you seen the new star ratings..I imagine a few 2 or 3 * ratings for postage charges will soon wreck your business.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
