Hello
I hope this isn't a silly question but is it safe to give my bank derails to a buyer who won the auction
I only said I would accept postal order or cheque and its for £100.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

it's safe to do a bank transfer, all you need to give is name of bank, sort code, account number and name, they can't do anything with those details apart from pay into your account. If you are really uncomfortable, you could advise that your auction stated cheque or po only but I am happy with a bank tranx. (can't bounce and they can't do a chargeback)0

Bank transfers is one of the best ways to receive payments.
None of that 3.4% + 20p paypal fee and you don't have to pay in a cheque.0 -
Thanks Julie
I suppose when i think about it my details ie. sort code, acc no and name are all on my cheques anyway.
Take care

i always thought that but dont they warn you against even leaving these sorts of details in the bin? what about fraud, identity theft etc?
i've seen quite a few sellers list their bank details on their auction page (in the payments section) and always wondered why people are so willing to give that info out to anyone - if anything surely you should limit it to just your buyers?0 -

Why? Worst case scenario, someone might pay them some money!
Have you seen Private Eye's classified ads lately? Lots of people with sob stories begging for money and listing their bank detail on the off-chance that someone will send them a few quid. Why would they risk it if there was a risk of losing money? Why would Private Eye allow it?My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
As OP states, all the details are on your cheques anyway.
I would rather receive a bank transfer than use Paypal anymore!0 -
The idea of someone actually offering to pay by bank transfer is so wonderful I may have to go and have a lie down....
I offer that on all my auctions and no one ever uses it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I always offer to pay / receive via direct payment too, but everyone wants to use Paypal. Paypal must be worth a fortune.0

OK everyone
My husband just got home from work and I told him about the buyer's email and what you have all said here.
However, he is still reluctant for me to go ahead with doing this. :undecided
Just to reassure him - Can the buyer definitely NOT access my account with these details??
I don't thinks so but he's not convinced
Many many thanks to everyone for helping me with this matter :A
