To be fair to the 'Scrouge', I never cease to be amazed how many people lack any appreciation of the consumption of various appliances.

Whenever we have posts complaining about high electricity bills, the posters invariably are at pains to stress they never have appliances(TVs etc) left on standby and they charge their mobiles at work.- Thus saving pennies!

The whole point of a good thread is that it resonates with the reader and their experiences. You choose topics that you have no experience of and it shows.
The old advice "Write about what you know" whether it's an essay, a novel or a forum post really is good advice !

All those guests will generate there own heat so turn the central heating down one degree. The money saved should cover the cost of electricity used by the devices :-)

I think a better question would be to ask them not to leave their devices eg laptop charging on the bed, as I had a burn mark left on a duvet cover by an overnight visitor who didn't appreciate how hot things can get. Turned out his laptop charger was faulty, but still, I now ask all guests to use the table top and not the bed or a chair.

As for the electricity consumption, it is negligible, unlike the potential cost of a fire!

I have an Anker box which can charge six devices at once. My friends had five things charging in various places all over my house, so I gave them the multi charger just to keep everything together. They went home and bought one for themselves.

Yes the cost is negligible but I was told at the weekend that keeping phones/tablets on charge all night can damage the batteries.

I feel for you. This could be a real problem.

You should set up a billing system linked the electricity meter. You'll need a server, a ERP billing system, the meter integration, printer, and new circuits to the guest bedroom. With fitting and maintenance no more than £15000 per annum including the billing system licence.

Then just leave a bill under the bedroom door every night.

If your average guest uses 2-3 pence of leccy a day you'll recoup that money in no time.

Of course can they only plug these devices in for charging if there is a wall socket for them to so in the bedroom. I believe that yo can still buy meters that take a shilling if you look for them.
Meanwhile, back at the Hotel Reality. I have guests all the time and over the festive season I have a few friends for about 10 days. I just let them get on with their laptops etc. I have yet to see any dramatic increase in my electricity bill.
