Scrimp or Splurge - What Is A False Economy?

Obviously having a car counts as necessity if someone is too disabled to walk far/at all. A "normal life" (ie getting out and about to reasonable extent) is obviously a necessity for everyone. So I would count a car as necessity in those circumstances - even where there is decent public transport.
Even living back where there was decent public transport - I wouldnt hesitate to get "wheels" if I needed them for that reason - and would still do so personally even if I couldnt afford it. But that's down to my personal attitude of "If it's a necessity - then I'm getting it anyway regardless". That has meant I've had to go into debt a few times in my life (ie for necessity renovation/maintenance work on my last house).
Admits to a basic viewpoint of "If something is reasonable/normal for people to have and a necessity then I'll get it anyway - as I'm good with money/did a full-time job - so it wouldnt be my fault if I couldnt afford it so.....<shrug shoulders>". Yep....that would mean I'd have had distinct problems if I'd landed up being on the dole for longer than I actually was in the event...

Today, I am having a very luxurious day.
I have visited a very select hair salon (my hall) for a trim with an expert stylilst (me - I'm the No 1 world expert on my own hair).
Between drinking pots of tea made from leaves scooped out with an antique solid silver caddy spoon, I am happily making stripy candles from re-purposed wax and wicks and old prungle tubes.
I shall have a light luncheon in a local oraganic cafe (aka my kitchen), featuring ruby chard, beetroots and radish from my allotment, plus a selection of shop-bought consumables acquired on YS stickers.
After lunch, I will stroll up to the free book 'shop' (the library) and return one offering and peruse all the lastest fiction, which is laid out for my delectation.
I will trim and tidy the bunch of YS carnations, which were 36p two weeks ago today, and will probably last another week with a little TLC. I may also swing by a local supermarket about 4 pm and treat myself to a brace of pain au chocolat at 15p the pair on YS and perhaps even some more flowers. It's only a five minute stroll, it'd be rude not to.
At some point, I may watch one of the three charity shop DVDs on the shelf (25p-75p each), lounge in a bubble bath (Xmas 2015 bath jollop - gift from a friend) and perhaps add a couple of rows to the beautiful pure wool rug which I am making from pulled-out jumpers and bootsale rug canvas.
All in all, depending on how many things which I want appear on YS, I may spend anything up to £2-£3 today. And I'm living a very luxurious life.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
