Are Peugeot/Renault/Citreon 2.0 HDI engines reliable?

I am looking at 2005-2007 2.0 HDI engines (ones without DPF) and would like some advice on their reliability. I am looking specifically at the citroen c4 2.0 hdi. Thanks

Renault-Nissan engines are completely different to PSA-Ford ones for starters...

And when you're talking about OLD engines, brand reliability is a secondary concern.
  • The 2l hdi is tried and tested and does have quite a good rep.

French electrics on the other hand . . .:rotfl:

I had the 2.0 HDI in my previous Peugeot 308 SW. Brilliant engine pulled like a train and managed over 50 mpg on a run, this was for the full automatic with DPF. Bought a RAV 4 with 2.0 litre petrol, no comparison to the Peugeot especially the 28 mpg.

I ran a 2.0 HDI 90bhp in a 206, bought 1 year old, for nearly 9 years without issue, never had any problems or failures, did decent mpg too

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
