i didn't say the only thing on the desktop should be the recycle bin. i said that a pic of ola jordan should also be on the desktop
do you really think people are going to delete all their desktop apps just because i said that i don't have any desktop apps? even if they did it wouldn't be the end of the world. would it?"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

I should hope not.
and no it wouldnt be the end of the world.
nb : you didnt say that you dont have any desktop apps, you said that the only thing that should be on the desktop is the recycle bin.
Less tech savvy readers may take that as gospel when it is simply your personal preference0 -
Google an app "DesktopOK" - it will remember icon locations per screen resolution. Works for me switching between docked monitor and undocked laptop
Or install Linux Mint, because that will give you a whole bunch of new stuff to worry about and you'll stop caring about icon locations.0 -

If you keep on desktop files that Windows generates previews for (images, videos, etc) it can impact performance, because the desktop is actually just another folder and Windows will try to generate previews and index those files.
Put this into the start menu search box "C:\Users\%username%\Desktop" and you'll see what I mean.
Most people will have noticed by now that Win7 can be slow to show the contents of a folder when you first open it, so if desktop is just another folder then the same effect will happen at startup.
I keep lots of stuff on my desktop.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
