We have just ordered a Hoover Vtv 590 nc vented tumble drier.

My husband seems to think it'll be a good one and it has sensors etc. We was having a giggle at the various dryness settings upto bone dry which will be the obvious default in my house.

I always had a vented dryer - for over 30 years. Then when there was all the trouble with hotpoint I changed to an AEG heat exchange condenser which is fantastic! It has a permanent connection so the water goes straight into the drain so no boxes etc to empty. There is no condensation in the utility room (which is what I feared from a condenser) and its A+++ energy rated. Loads of programmes - room is much warmer as no matter how well you seal the vent hose on the vented there is still escape of heat through the wall. Truly converted (although the AEG is not cheap)!

I don't think you can go wrong with Miele. My Miele tumble dryer which is vented to the outside is around 12 years old and is still just as good as new.
  • Miele ones are great... cost between £600 and £1500 though, but you get what you pay for in that they will last... Got a HOOVER Dynamic Next DNHD913A2C which is vented and has a sensor... works like a dream and £400 at Currys with a £30 discount at the moment

Also takes 9kg which is on the larger size and has an A++ energy rating...

    Miele are excellent but mega-expensive.

For a mid price/very reliable brand we use Bosch.

We have a Bosch hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, all have behaved impeccably.

DD has a Bosch washing machine, Bosch Dryer, Bosch dishwasher, Bosch hob, AEG fridge and AEG double oven.

We looked at Bosch for the dryer, but chose AEG because of the vent positions.

We do have a Miele oven, 28+ years old, has only ever needed a new fan element (£40) and a new door seal £10 on Amazon.

We bought DS a Bosch washing machine when he got married in 1998, 2 children and 18 years later it is still going strong .

So I reckon You will not go far wrong with Bosch or AEG.

Our appliances are predominantly Bosch. All but the tumble dryer are around 15 years old. The tumble dryer packed up about two weeks after the warranty ran out. The cost of repair quoted was about the same as a new dryer.
  • Thanks very much for all that information - really do appreciate everyone's input.

Whilst I really would like something like Miele, they do seem a bit too pricey for me.

I think I am going to have a look at the vented versions of some of the brands mentioned above (Bosch, Hoover and AEG) and order something over the weekend.

    Thanks again.

    Even Miele can make lemons.

At my previous hospital, we had a number of Miele washing machines that were running 24/7, and never once did they need a repair.

At my current hospital, however, we got a brand new Miele that only ran for about 6 hours per day but it was just an expensive pile of scrap within a year.

Engineer almost had a 'reserved' spot in the car park and I knew him better than some of the people I actually worked with.

    Look at heat pump condenser.

Much cheaper to run payback on increased cost is 3ish years.

Grundig and others come with 5y warranty.
