Vented Tumble Dryer Advice

Hi there,
Our tumble dryer has suddenly died (typical, given the weather has just turned) and I am after a replacement.
Our only requirement is that it needs to be of the vented type. A dryness sensor also seems a good idea, so we would also like that if possible.
Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about tumble dryers.
Can anyone recommend any models please?
Thank you.

Why does it need to be a venting model?
AO.com is quite useful for filtering good down to a handful - then you can look at feedback.0 -

Aye, just buy from whoever is cheapest. I have used them for one purchase, which was fine - except for the post-purchase warranty sales pitch, which was pretty irritating.0 -

Any reason for the above?
Over the past 3 years ive bought a tumble dryer, fridge freezer, washing machine, iron and oven from them, all on seperate occasions and after doing extensive research and utilising topcashback for a few quid back and ive never had a problem with them, well apart from the mentioned warranty calls on each occasion but just say no and they will leave you be.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Do you mean that it must be a condenser dryer, rather than a vented one? The difference is that the expelled water from the condenser dryer goes into a drawer, which you just pull out and empty, whereas a vented dryer has a tube which needs to go through an open window or door.
Our Bosch condenser dryer is now over 12 years old, and it's still working perfectly. Bosch aren't the cheapest brand on the market, nor are they the dearest ................ but a big plus is they don't appear to have a tendancy to burst into flames, unlike some other makes!0 -
We bought a new one 2 years back, a vented model with dryness sensor, it's an AEG.
It was chosen as it has 3 positions for attaching the vent hose and we needed the hose attached on the right, which many other brands did not offer.
It works vey well, I am very pleased with my choice.0 -
Hi,
Thanks very much for the input.Silvertabby wrote: »Do you mean that it must be a condenser dryer, rather than a vented one?
I would indeed prefer a vented one if possible. We already have an outlet and all the general reviews I have read, suggest that condenser dryers just are not as good as vented ones (i.e. you should only get a condenser if you have to) - of course, this might just be a huge and unfair generalisation.
AO (who I have never used) seem to be the best price and have very flexible delivery options. Is the general opinion, therefore, that you can use them as long as you are prepared for a few irritating calls afterwards? Or is there something slightly more sinister about them?
Also, which tumble dryer brands are the ones that keep catching fire - is this model specific?0 -
Tumble dryers by Indesit (therefore Hotpoint too) were the ones that caught fire but they won't be selling any like that now! AO are fine. Like you I'd go for a vented dryer if possible, they are so much simpler.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Didn't Beko have a problem as well? - or was that just their fridges?0 -
Yes about 4 years ago. I would imagine just about every manufacturer has had product recalls of something at sometime.Silvertabby wrote: »Didn't Beko have a problem as well? - or was that just their fridges?Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
