You do realise that an Avensis and a Corsa aren't the same car, and don't share mechanical design? The parts alone for the OP's Corsa are north of two-thirds of that price.

To be fair your numbers for the parts make £350 in total just about feasible assuming a cheap garage (and as the OP is in the North East going by the linked website, the independents do tend to be cheap up here).

I'm actually quite surprised at the prices of Corsa clutches, they seem a little steep to someone used to Fords and Japmobiles.

The bulk of that cost is in the combined slave and release bearing. It's not an uncommon design - and it's exactly the same in an equivalent-age Fiesta.

If we look at that Fiesta equivalent, the two-piece clutch kit's similar price, but the slave/release is a bit cheaper - around £60-70 for OEM quality - so about £160 in parts instead of £250.

My local Vauxhall dealer charges a fixed price of £429 for a Corsa clutch - including VAT. Local independent will likely be cheaper (although my local reliable garage quoted a similar figure to the dealer for my Peugeot 308 a couple of years back).

    I'm in the South-east.

I had clutch and DMF done by A1 Clutches in Feb, the clutch replacement alone was £350 parts and labour, the DMF was an extra £400. They use genuine parts and had mine done in a day. Fully recommend them

You do surprise me...I was trying to instill some reality, giving the OP's unrealistic expectation of cost.
  • The 'S-A' in the vehicle description on the OPs link stands for Semi Automatic. Youll need to at least double the most expensive price suggested so far
  • Got a quote today for £450. Haven't done any price comparisons - it's not a cheap garage, but not a dealer
  • its closer to £100 an hour. And the garage will pay £10 for the clutch but charge about £100 retail price and add taxes to that and other things.

NEVER use a garage-- find a clutch on ebay and hire a friendly mechanic to call around to fit it for an honest days wage (£100)

I seriously would not suggest supplying parts for a clutch. Get them to supply and fit, then if there are any issues its all down to the mechanic to resolve. For the sake of saving a few quid you have given the mechanic the perfect get out clause.

For me NO GOOD mechanic is willing to supply the parts you supply unless they are genuine in the box. Why should he risk his time and reputation because you want to save a few quid.
