I've used whocanfixmycar.com to get an approximate price for a piece of work from garages in the area. Please note that the quotes are based purely on the information that you give when you send in your enquiry so might change when physically inspected.
I agree I may have assumed too low a labour rate!

As for price, I have called around a few garages now and they all say "bring it in and we'll price it for you". I appreciate it may be hard to price it, given they don't know exactly what's wrong, however this is why I was asking on here so I can go armed with some expectations to ensure if they do give me too high a price that I can walk away.

£70 for a clutch kit? what chocolate teapot brand is that?

Add another £100 for a proper one?

  • Why do you think you need a new clutch?

It's been slipping recently intermittently, although last night I was struggling to get over 30 with my foot down and I could smell an acrid burning plastic smell. Plus when I bought the car, the dealer wouldn't warrant the clutch. I took that risk when I bought it...

To get a quote, ring Mr Clutch if there is a branch in your area.
  • As its a corsa your probably looking around the £250 mark for parts and labour.

You'd be daft not to replace them both, and you'd be daft to use cheap own-brand parts.
So that's £250ish in parts, rough numbers.
Call it another £25 or so in other consumables.
Now add three hours of labour on - the price is going to depend entirely on where in the country you are.
Then there's anything else that's worth doing at the same time, because access is so much easier.
  • I had one changed on an Avensis last year at an independent garage for £350. Toyota's headline rate was £750ish which they offered to reduce to £620 because I'm a fairly good customer. It's an old car so I went independent.

You do realise that an Avensis and a Corsa aren't the same car, and don't share mechanical design? The parts alone for the OP's Corsa are north of two-thirds of that price.

Don't buy cheap eBay clutches. I learned that one years ago, the hard way. When it goes pop (one of the springs gave on the pressure plate on mine and embedded itself in the gearbox bell-housing), you'll have to pay a load more labour to get it fixed again (the garage won't warrant non-supplied parts).

You'll be paying *at least* £250 for a new clutch, and potentially £100 more depending on the car. Don't assume that just because your car is a run-of-the-mill model that all jobs will be simple and cheap -- it doesn't work that way.
