Might the viewer have just thought the panels detracted from the appearance of the house, and therefore would have wanted them removed?

TBH, I would class many solar panel installations I see as 'ugly'. In some cases, I think I would rather remove the panels and forego the income, in order to make the house look nicer. But I guess it's personal preference.
Probably and each to their own - but they are clearly on the 1st photo of the house and a neat row of panels - so if she thought they were ugly surely she wouldn't have viewed the house. From the impression she gave she was very non technically minded and just didn't 'get' the benefit and thought something underhand was going on!!!

She did also state when she looked round that she "hated" conservatories (not that we have one) I doubt she has found a suitable house to buy that in her words "had a kitchen suitable for her flower arranging hobby" It is truly an education as to how people live when selling your house. She was a pain in the proverbial and HAD to have the viewing within 2 hours or requesting that day - and I was out at work that day and made an effort to race back and tidy for her - never again - viewings on my terms now!!!

I'd personally consider a house with owned panels and a decent FIT more valuable than one without.

One thing to consider. People are citing the survey numbers to say that panels add no value. But if 14.7% of people think they add value then you may well achieve a higher price for your house sale - you only need one person to buy.

I am sure there are people out there who make a hobby of house viewing. They have no intention of buying but just love to have a nose round and feedback any old excuse to the estate agent of why they are no longer interested.

I would be more than happy to have a house with panels fitted - free electricity and a small bonus as well; but as many have said, it is all down to personal preference. I'd definitely make sure that the positive side (free electricity & payments) was highlighted in the marketing material!

Having just bought a house that has the roof space leased panels I can say it didn't change our mind on buying the house but it did cause delays in purchase due to checking the mortgage company would lend on the property and also the solicitors not understanding the legal sides of things. We missed our first move date due to not receiving detailed information.

Not sure on the savings yet but we need to manage the use of our appliances to get the best advantage of free electricity as anything we don't use goes to the company who leases our roof space. They don't own our roof as I have read in earlier comments on this post but just lease the space above our roof. Just 20 years left of the contract then they can come off as my husband wants a roof light putting in and room making in the loft!

Saddened to read people's views on solar panels. Just wondering how many people who wouldn't consider a solar panel on the roof have a satellite dish stuck on the wall?
