I'd be really interested in buying a house which came with the solar feed in tariff from 5 years ago, that would be quite valuable.
I'd walk away from a house where i didn't own the roof, for multiple reasons, principally;
1. Who the !!!! wants to own a house where they dont own the roof?
2. If I ever wanted to put solar panels up, I'd be stymied.
3. Would be a nightmare to resell.0 -

In most cases I think it's a dislike of the new and unfamiliar. Having renovated my roof this year, I see nothing inherently attractive in roof tiles; rather the reverse! They're a utilitarian product.
Thankfully, I live in a village where the district council weren't so prejudiced. Spotting a win-win opportunity, they erected solar panels on all the elderly people's bungalows, reaped a great harvest in early FiTs and the old folks benefited too.
Put it another way, although there's been quite a lot of heated opinion expressed regarding the local wind-turbines, I've never heard a word against those panels.0 -
Surprised at the negativity from some of the posts on solar panels for a money saving forum.. fact is solar panels add value to a house as there is an income generated and cost saving to the home owner. I agree I wouldn't like a rent a roof scheme but if I were to own the panels it would be a massive bonus for me. Cheaper electricity from generating and using my own and an income from the electricity I don't use, win win.0

- 70.6 per cent said they believe solar panels make no difference to the value of a property for sale
- 14.7 per cent said they believe solar panels reduce the value of a property for sale

Can you give us some precise income figures for your solar panels? If you can clearly demonstrate to a buyer what they'll save (earn) in a year it will help your cause. Do you have an energy meter that records this information?0

I receive approximately £700 annually for electricity generated, so with over 20 years remaining there is a potential to earn £12000 being conservative taking into account that you may need to replace the inverter and the panels will become marginally less efficient each year. Yes I have an energy meter and graph my monthly generation of kW so that I can monitor and check that all is running OK. What you save in electric bills is a bit more difficult to calculate and less significant the main income is the FIT payments.
On going maintenance of the system is minimal. I have kept all the payments slips I have received so can easily show all payments received so far.0 -
I purchased a BTL with solar panels, conveyancing asked a few question other than that fairly straight forward, the panels had been purchased outright at a cost of about £14k..ouch!
The owner didn't expect anything for them and transferred the FiT to me, I wouldn't pay extra for them but you must be mad to remove them. My FiT is at the old 50p rate ( increases with RPI) with 20 years agreement left, I get the FiT every three months and my tenants get free electric, what's not to like? Mine are at the back of the house so you don't notice them much.0 -
I would happily buy a house with solar panels on, especially with the older FiT rates. However, I would like to feel like I was getting a good deal so possibly wouldn't pay more than one without. I think if you are able to get the EA to understand and be able to sell them as a big bonus then it shouldn't put too many people off.0

Since this thread has popped up (it mostly pre dates me joining this forum)
I am trying to sell a house with solar PV at the original higher FIT rate. The payments are so good that the FIT pays for all our electricity usage. So we have a house that has all it's electricity free for the next 20 years. you would think that wold be a good selling point wouldn't you?
Well no it appears. Of all the people who have viewed the house, only one showed any interest in the solar PV and what it offers them. It certainly looks like nobody is going to choose our house because it has them.
I haven't ruled out decomissioning them and taking them with me to the new house.I won't get any FIT from them but I would get the free electricity and if they add no value to the house and the eventual buyer does not want them then why not?0
