Question - Can I Return My TV To Currys?

  • So these "future proof" TVs should last forever then?

No technology will ever surmount them?

I doubt this is classed as "moneysaving"... ;)
  • Well of course it wont be forever, but if you spend £3500 in december 2014 on the main feature of samsungs display of tvs that was being pushed for "be ready for 4k" "future proof tv" etc meaning it should last in my eyes at least 5 years and if anything new comes out they said you can upgrade to the new connections box no need to buy a new tv.

But here we are a year and a bit later and it cant do one of the first 4k hdr devices thats out in my case the ps4 pro... Just doesn't sound correct does it?

I will keep you updated when the manager calls me.... "if" he calls me it will no doubt be.

When will people learn that there is no such thing as 'future proof'. I have heard it about computers for over 30 years and it has never been true, nor will it ever be true. I am afraid to say you may have fallen for a cheap advertising gimmick - and I am sure their lawyers will have vetted every word to ensure that you misinterpret the meaning.

Can I ask what the model number of the TV was?

Seems this is far more complicated than I originally thought. Do you have a case? Who knows, but I'm willing to bet that Currys will say you don't. It will then be your decision as to if you wish to go down a legal route and leave it in the hands of the judge. They shouldn't be claiming anything as future proof, as you can't guarantee that but you need someone with greater legal knowlege (ie: a solicitor) to tell you your chances.

I hope you get somewhere with this it does seem a bit unfair.
I don't understand much of this tech stuff but "Ready for 4k" seems to say it's not 4K integral if you know what I mean.........

Like HD ready which meant the tv could receive hd transmissions but would not show in hd quality.
  • And to think we had High Definition tv way back in 1936!

It's the other way around, which just goes to demonstrate how confusing it is.
  • UPDATE!!!!

Im getting my 2 year old tv exchanged for a brand new tv as the samsung guy in currys admitted that samsung made a mistake and shouldnt of advertised it as "future ready" please see the below message I am copying and pasting to everyone now that currys admitted its mis sold.

If anyone has the Samsung TV model UE65HU8500 call the store back where you bought it immediately, it has been miss sold!

They claim it was "future ready" and you never had to buy a new tv again because if anything new comes out you can upgrade the connections box. I went to my local Currys store after buying the ps pro and i couldn't get hdr to run and the Samsung guy admitted they made a mistake and shouldn't of advertised it as that as the panels in the tv are 8 bit and they thought that was suffice for 4k hdr however they actually need to be 10 bit!

I complained to the store manager and after a week and a but they said to return the tv and pick a new one up to the value of he day i bought the first one so i had a 2 year old tv and now getting a brand new one because it was mis sold. The guy said he expects more to come back because if this so thought I would spread the word as it was a lot of money to spend £3299 on a tv that was labelled as "future ready" and you don't need to buy another tv as you just upgrade the connections box

I went with the 65KS9500 samsung tv, getting delivered on Thursday!

So get your tv returned for a new one today!

Let me know how you guys get on, spread the word!

Well done, I would not have thought it was possible to get that company to be human with its customers.
I have been proved wrong {Glad for you} and it goes to show that with the right information even the most stroppy company can admit mistakes and do the right thing :0)
