Motability car hand-back question.

I have had my assessment for PIP.
I now waiting for the outcome.
What I want to know is what will happen to my motability car should I not get enhanced rate of the mobility component?
Does the car have to be returned as soon as I get the (unfavourable) results?
I take it that motability will not extend your lease until you have gone down the appeal route?
And, finally, what happens if the car is returned, I receive the £2000,
appeal the decision and win. How long before I could go back to motability and what about the £2000? Do you have to give it back?
It doesn't make sense to me that motability (very kindly) give motability customers a one off payment then some time after, return to motability and lease a new car?
I can't find any information anywhere about this.
Hope someone can help. Thanks!

Have a read of this, it's all i could find. Also recieving the £2000 would depend when you joined the scheme. Hope you get the PIP decision you're waiting for. http://www.motability.co.uk/about-the-scheme/unsuccessful-reassessment/0

Thanks For the quick reply Poppy.
I have been with motability for 15 years. In fact, just a month ago got a new car from motability. I was in a conundrum then because I didn't know wether to go ahead with it or not knowing that I would be assessed for PIP and the chance of losing the enhanced rate.
The chap from motability just said to go ahead and order the car as 'you don't know what the outcome will be'.
I've had a look at the link you sent me and its this point they make:
This is a one-off support package to help with the transition from the Scheme and we do not expect that you’ll need to pay this back if you are later awarded PIP. However, if you decide to rejoin the Scheme within six months of receiving the transitional support package, you will need to speak to us to discuss your options.
Maybe motability would expect some or part of the £2000 back?
Would it be feasible to purchase your own car (and all the hassle that goes with it), only to return to motability a few months later and then have the problem of selling the car you purchased?
Maybe most people wouldn't bother going back to motability again.
It would be interesting to know if anyone here on MSE has experienced this.0 -
I can't help with that answered sorry. I've only just ordered my first motability car and i'm now waiting for the date to collect it.
Hopefully you won't have to return yours. Good luck and please let us know how you get on0 -
Thanks Poppy.
The motability scheme is fantastic. All the time I have been with them it's just been a pleasure. The trouble free motoring and the helpful people of motability i have been in contact with, are just great.
I only had my assessment last Wednesday. The assessor (or whatever they're called!) was lovely. So now I have an anxious wait for the brown envelope.0 -

Before ordering a new car in Spring 2014, I asked Motability about the transitional package (I'm my son's appointee and he would also be eligible for the £2000 if he does not receive enhanced mobility when he transfers to PIP). I am confident that he fulfills the requirements to receive in excess of the twelve points required, but at the same time, I am aware that many people have to go to Mandatory Reconsideration or appeal.
Motability told me that the £2000 is to keep, even if my son is then upgraded to enhanced mobility on appeal (this is, of course, in the event that he does not receive twelve points or more from the outset). I asked about returning to the scheme at a later date, and was told that even if I do that, the £2000 is not repayable. However, I have read on a FB group (and I know that isn't necessarily the most reliable source of information), that you cannot return to Motability for six months after receiving a payment (for some, it is less than £2000 as they joined the scheme at a later date).
Obviously in my son's case, I hope that he will receive enhanced mobility once he transfers to PIP - by my reckoning, he should easily receive in excess of twelve points for mobility, due to his physical problems and his learning disability. If he doesn't, but the decision is overturned on appeal, I intend to return to Motability as soon as I am able to arrange it.0 -
Wow Poppy!
That was really quick!
I have read on different forums that the notification can take 2-3 months! I was/am expecting a long wait to hear anything.
You now have me hoping that it could be a lot sooner.
I will be so glad when it is all over. It's all I'm thinking about recently.0 -

Well I received the brown envelope and scored 10 points for mobility.
Standard rate.
This is after 15 years of HRM on DLA. (Lifetime award).
I now wait for motability to get in touch for my car to be returned. I've only had it 7 weeks!
My award is for a five year term.
I was also awarded standard rate care, which I have never had and wasn't expecting, to be honest.
All I really wanted was to be able to hang on to my car.
I know I should be grateful and I am aware that some people have to jump through hoops just to get standard rate.
Next stop, mandatory reconsideration, then if that fails, appeal.0 -
Sorry to hear your result missymum. You have about 6 weeks till the car goes back. I hope you get the decision overturned at the MR stage.0
