Samsung S6 broken charging port, please help

  • The new USB-C cables look like the reverse of apple's lightning cable with the same ability to be inserted either way up and so aim to decrease user damage from inserting the wrong way etc. They are oval in shape with the connectors inside. also USB-C cables seem to be able to charge more efficiently which is why we are starting to see them become more commonly used.

Its good to hear that you found a cheaper quote as a usb repair on an S6 shouldn't be that hard however the prices companies quote depend on the profit they are looking to get from assisting you. If you are under warranty and it is a fault with the software then it will be covered but unfortunately if it is a pin that is damaged that is normally attributed to user damage - not saying it was intentional but micro USB's can be notoriously easy to push the cable in too hard or the wrong way round.

Vodaphone sound like they were trying to benefit from a simple repair to be honest and the only thing I would warn against this cheap independent repair centre is to check if they are Samsung trained or attributed as this could void your warranty if fixed by an independent technician opening your phone. If it was me I would personally go through Samsung as you will have the assurance of it being repaired professionally with official Samsung parts - many independents use cheap knock offs and they don't always function as they should.

In my own personal experience i am exceptionally careful with my phones yet have managed to damage the charging ports a few times across various android phones i have used in the past. Not intentionally or carelessly but just because every time you pull the cable out and plug it in you are causing wear and tear on the pins. I have since changed to iPhone and have yet to encounter this problem with the lightning cable and this is what the new USB-C aims to compare to.

    Hope this helps.

The independent repair will definitely invalidate the warranty, no "could" in that and they're all making a good profit on the job, the actual part is only about £5.

  • just had the exact same issue with vodafone, my galaxy s6 phone had 2 issues , microphone not working and charging very slowly, received a nasty phone call from repair company asking for £170 as i have damaged the port so its not under warranty , they refuse to sort the microphone issue as both faults have to be done as one repair, i cant recall breaking my usb port and the local vodafone shop are washing their hands of the phone, no goodwill gesture and just the same story as the repair team , give us £170 or your phone will never be fixed , Nenan did you get your issues resolved ?

Have your phone back and ask an independent repair shop to fix it .Much cheaper but it will void any warranty on the phone .
Its easy enough to damage the port as has been posted .
I paid £12 for a replacement USB port for my Samsung Note 3 as i had bent the pins on port .
Would be a self repair but manged to straighten pin .

Glad all my phones are USB-C or Lightning.

I broke an mp3 player once by unwittingly damaging the charging port. Micro-USB is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. I still have a battery pack which uses micro-USB and I take great care when connecting the wire.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

I've got a Sony Xperia Z3. It has both the micro USB and a magnetic charger connection (not wireless charging).

I must admit that the magnetic connection (with just the two pins on the side of the phone) is very good, and I much prefer it to using the very fragile USB.

PS. I realise that this is not going to help the OP!

Had the same happen to me with Vodafone. We are both extremely careful with our phones and are longstanding Vodafone customers. My wife had this with hers, quoted £220 for a repair, but £37 seems reasonable for a repair, where was that from? Have decided to use the wireless charging capability as only 3 months left of the contract.

If you've broken 2 of them it would seem to say you weren't as extremely careful as you think you were...

Why does everyone keep saying they have had this problem with Vodafone. Any network would give you the same response, if Samsung are refusing to fix it it basically means it's user error.

Can't count how many times iv had customers shout abuse at me for the same thing at work, everyone Is a careful owner who has never abused or dropped the phone.
