  • Good morning, welcome home TA.

The sun is trying its best this morning, so I'm hoping that the mister will do a reverse burgle with towels and bathmat. The back door is still not fixed and can't be, it has to be replaced, the handyman has told the letting agent about this. The sooner I can find us a house to buy the better but there is little available in he area that OH and DS want, though I am a lot less picky.I really did not think that renting woukd be so challenging. God forbid there is a fire between us and the front door because we'd find it difficult to get out. OH woukd be ok if he had time to put stools to climb out on, I'd really struggle and DS would too so it would be a question of getting him and OH out and then I'd have to try my best. What a gloomy thought.

Friend coming to visit this afternoon, I plan to bake later and have Sunday dinner to make.

I got headhunted the other day, quite an appealing management job but at 65 I don't think I can commit to long enough to make it worth employing me so am not going to pursue it. Rather nice to have someone show an interest though.

I've been making a baby blanket, chevrons in rainbow colours, an unusual request for a newborn. Nearly finished and must finish today as baby arrived yesterday. This is a friend's sister's first babe. I've got about 8 or 9 baby jumpers to pack up for their recipients, will have sort which is for which baby later.

Better get the washing sorted at least he cannot set off the smoke alarm doing that, 5 times yesterday while he cooked and I may have to buy some headphones or earplugs.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning all, thanks for the thread nmlc x

Damp here but I think we are due a drier day - yesterday it just rained solid all day. DS1 and his college friend went to see Brighton uni yesterday. I was worried about him motorway driving in the rain but he managed okay - think he quite enjoyed the challenge.

DD has an away fixture for rugby today and it's a later kick off as several of the youngsters have church parade/remembrance first. This means that DH will do the roast - it's pork belly today. I will be having an early night as it's the first day at my new job tomorrow. Feels like it's taken ages to come around. I have bought my monthly train ticket (£227!) and have all my clothes for the first week ironed and sorted. I have sat with DH and meal planned for the week. Actually feel quite calm although may be running around like benny hill in the morning :)

Off to watch the cenotaph service now. Have a good day all.

    Morning all,

TA,glad you enjoyed the break, shame about the weather though. It must have rained a lot during Friday night as when we got up yesterday morning and I took Ly1a up the road to the park,it was flooded completely and running across the road and down ours,I knew the grids would have blocked and waded in to try and clear them but couldnt find them & threatened to go over the tops of my wellies so I went back down our road and kicked the leaves away from the grids I could see.Got back in and asked the DGC if they wanted to see all the water so wellies were put on & they couldnt believe what the park looked like.By the time we walked back down more leaves were blocking the grids so we had fun kicking them away.Thankfully it had stopped raining by then so the water on the road has slowly dispersed although still on the park.Tried ringing the council,no answer, and their website was down. There were 2 men from the water company sat in their van next to the park this morning on their phones -should have been there yesterday.
The trouble is although a lot of work is being done at the front of us,the culvert that backs up hasnt yet been diverted away from our cottages. We kept checking the cellar but it was ok.When I saw all the water coming down the road I was fearing a repeat of Boxing Day  oops sorry to go on about it. The children thought it was a big adventure ;) anyway.

I've got some steak out for tea from the freezer, though I'm afraid its the same as some I got off the market a while back that was as tough as old boots.I'm wondering whether to cook it slowly i the oven.I'm nearly out of meat now in the freezer so may be able to order a meat pack from a local butcher this week.

Visiting our friends later as he is due to go in hospital for a pacemaker on Wednesday, want to call in Lid1 too but its on the way.I want to stock up on their nuts, and they do a nice gin too ;)

Hope everyone has a good Sunday and hope the poorlies feel better soon.Good luck in your new job Coxy!

And the final total was 5 times

How does he do it when I can make a full Sunday dinner without creating clanging havoc?
It's a special skill, exclusive to men. We usually have veggie toad-in-the-hole for Sunday dins, and Mr LW, being "helpful" comes into the kitchen to cook the sausages - and invariably sets off the smoke alarm. It never happens when I cook them.
else I might take inspiration from Dark Angel given my current mood.
That's the second time I've seen "Dark Angel" referred to recently - what is it, please? :o

Been for a swift trip to Herr A this morning, as we were out of milk - again. I'm not very happy with Mr LW, tbh; we did get a few other bits I needed, but as my list wasn't huge, I had a basket on my lap, as it's easier for Mr LW to push the wheelchair with this than with a wheelchair trolley attached to the front.

So, ok, I got everything on my list except glace cherries (they were out of them, but it's not an urgent requirement), but Mr LW decided he wanted some wine. So he put a couple of bottles in the basket, at which point I said "that's enough, my knees are starting to hurt with the weight." Bearing in mind my left knee was damaged in a car crash in 1990 and was never treated at the time, so it gives me a lot of trouble. So he loads in two more bottles of wine and a bottle of whiskey, totally ignoring the fact that I'm in pain.
And yes, I did make him pay for the alcohol.

    Afternoon all,

Three lots of washing done and blowing on the line, beds stripped and will remake later on I love Sunday for fresh bedding.

House clean and tidy and fire is lit so all cosy here, dd has finished her Xmas shopping and is now starting to wrap presents  that's a job that I loathe but will start to do a few bits every now and then.

OH just gone to the shop to get baking potatoes, I had bought some with the shopping but he used them yesterday for his Bombay potatoes which were delish.

Jacket spuds with ham and pate for dinner will cook them on the log burner to save putting the oven on.

Rosyred I wonder if its the same gin I get there ? a pretty bottle with a blue and white label ? its lush.

    Have good days all xx
  • Oh LW that sounds unpleasant. Surely he didn't need all that at once. Dark Angel was on ITV recently. It's a drama about a woman who murdered people with arsenic when they became inconvenient to her, mostly her husbands and children. You should be able to catch up on the hub.

Bread baked, homework done and we might pop over to m&d for a cuppa. This means I can nose around to see if she has the Michael Buble album or not.

Thanks Fran; I'm not a great fan of tv, so when people refer to a programme, I usually don't have a scooby what they're on about. :D

Re the shopping - I wouldn't have minded if he'd said he wanted to get all that before we went in, so that I could've used a wheelchair trolley. It was all that weight on my bad knee that made me so cross, and after I'd said I'd reached my limit of what I could comfortably take.

    Bah! Men!! :D

It's ok, I made him dust the lounge later on; and I hovered over him making sure he did it properly, including scrabbling unnder the table to do the barley-sugar legs, and doing the tops of the DVD and VHS players (yes we still have a VHS player) and the $ky box etc where they're stacked in an open-fronted cupboard.
    Mwah-ha-ha-ha.:D
