Any suggestions for my 40th birthday treat?

My lovely husband wants to book something special for 3-5 nights next April to coincide with my 40th birthday - as I just don't fancy the idea of a party. He has asked me for some ideas - so I am asking for ideas here.

This would need to be:
  • 'special' - without our 3 kids!!!!
  • Relaxing (I don't want to cook)
  • Within £600 budget roughly
UK/abroad - open to any suggestions

The reason it is 3-5 nights only is because we need to get grandparents to look after our children and we think that any longer would be pushing it a bit.

  • Long relaxing weekend in Paris? Maybe treat yourself to a spa treatment during the day,sightseeing,shopping...nice romantic dinners at night. (I'm sure you would enjoy ;) )

I went to Sorrento for mine. It was beautiful and on the day I was 40 I stood on the top of Mount Vesuvious (spelling sorry). It was fantastic and very romantic. Mine was in March and the season had not really started so the price was good April is probably about the same.
Lots to see and do or just chill out if you want to.

We went to Las Vegas for hubby's I booked it as a surprise because he had always wanted to go. I on the other hand was not really interested in going but I had the most fantastic time. On the day he was 40 we flew over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter and had a mini cruise on the Colorado River. All that was much more expensive but both were trips to remember.

A dirty weekend away methinks!! ;)

If you have google earth maybe use that for the "8 wonders of the world" that maybe you haven't seen and would love to?
maybe keep it simple with a nice break away at a hotel (maybe with discounts?)

Maybe before we go would be more appropriate - although it's my birthday, not his!

I love the sound of Sorrento - not somewhere I would have thought of, so will look into this.

My hubby went to Las Vegas on a conference last year and although he enjoyed it, I don't think he would want to go back so soon - also, quite a long flight for a short trip and probably out of our budget.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

budapest might be worth checking out - cheap flights with easyjet from a good few places, tons of spas and bath houses for relaxing and fairly cheap too (as long as you don't go to the main touristy streets which can be more expensive than the uk for food and drink). To make it memorable you could go for a cruise on the danube too!
  • Well we went to Barcelona for our friends 50th and it was great. You just book with jet 2 or some other cheap airline there is loads to do and the port is just great on a night with loads of restaurants to pick from. There is a beach if you fancy it Weather permitting taxis are dead cheap and there are lots of places to visit.
    Make £11,000 in 2011 / ebay £600
