EDF updating final bill

Options
Hello everyone.

I havs moved out, done my final readings, send it to EDF and recived Final Bill. Im not gonna comment of very poor estimation as I can see that EDF is known for that. My final bill was £550. I spoke to them, make payments plan etc.

Yesterday I recived another bill. It is a updated version of previous bill as they mixed up night and day tarrif when updating numbers to their system. And it costs me now another £250. So it adds up to £750.

I spoke to them and said Im not gonna pay more as it's their mistake and they had enough time to fix it. They kept going about how previous bill was canceled by the system along with payments plan. And kept asking if I wanna set up new plan.

What can I do? Can I just keep paying whatever they agreed on in the first place,or there is nothing I can do?
thanks for any advice

Under the industry code of conduct, they have one year to send you the correct bill. So if they did so within that year, there's not a lot you can do.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

All companies have a legal right to correct a bill if they can show that the initial calculation was incorrect. Mistakes happen in all businesses. EDF can also pursue the debt for up to 6 years. I fear that a 'it's your fault, tough' approach will not work. They should offer you time to pay and, possibly, a small amount of compensation.

If someone owed you £750, would you just forget about it?

If you think the amount is wrong (I'm not sure you do) then raise a complaint explaining why following the suppliers complaint procedure.

If you agree you owe the amount, but would find it difficult to pay all in one go, speak to the supplier nicely and they will probably agree an interest free re-payment plan with you
(although as you've already told them you're "not gonna pay more as it's their mistake", they may not be too understanding with you)

I suppose that if you don't come to an agreement then they'll just put a default on your credit rating.

You might feel better but you won't really win as a default could cost you a load of aggro in the future
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
