Milliets

In June, I bought Peter Storm walking boots online from Millets. Knocked down from £75 to £30.

I worn them about 2/3 times over stoney ground etc. However you feel the stones through the soles so much it's like being bare-footed. I have now seen other buyers reviews having same issue, but no one said about a successful refund.
I rarely taken back used footwear before. I contacted Milliets via online & said return to the local store to inspect & advise. It's a bit of a drive to the nearest Milliets store. If I am going to make the journey I want to ensure it's successful.

Anyone got any strong point to cite to them has anyone dealt with Milliets much before on returns?

Even if they issued a credit note I'd be ok with that as I seen a more expensive reptable brand of boot I like.

I don't see you getting anywhere with this. The shoes aren't that great but that doesn't mean they're faulty or otherwise do not conform to contract. Did you do any research into buying walking boots before you bought these?

Yes researched them. Some reviews were OK they have vibram soles. Though they described as terrain boots & they certainly are not.

I can't believe they were originally selling for £75 quite poor quality.

Ring the store first, I wouldn't be happy with them.
  • Consumer rights act 2015 - Section 9 - "Goods to be of satisfactory quality".
"The quality of goods includes ... fitness for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are usually supplied"

If they are supplied as terrain/walking boots, and the soles don't allow you to go walking, they are not of satisfactory quality.

They were £30 what do you expect for a cheap pair of boots. The £75 is called kidology just like that new sofa at 50% off with another 20% if you buy it now. These sales are for the gullible, the people who fall for all the RRP crap.

You want to go hill walking pay the £150+ that you really need to pay for this. For 30 quid you got exactly what you paid for.

Doesn't matter how much they.cost, they should still be fit for purpose.

It was these ones, but Milliets don't do them anymore.

Bris - I didn't buy these to go up Nevis or Snowdon. I know you require a serious boot for that!

Though they are not leaking I think I may struggle to prove the not up to the task side ie the sole. However, if I asked for credit note towards a more expensive pair they would probably do that!

I went walking in Norfolk recently & a lot of the paths have stones, flints sometimes in the earth. I could feel every stone through the sole it was like walking barefoot. I thought the Vibram sole be ok, as used on higher priced boots. These are classed as walking boots and for I take that for any paths smooth or not (I am not talking high mountains) would be ok.

Additionally, the display advert got them on a tree stump as such, thus giving the impression the boots are advertised, as rough terrain to a degree be ok!

I bought these for the Vibram sole, I suspected the boot not to be as durable etc. However, in this case, it's the other way around!

The actual boot itself is ok. It's just the sole. I was wondering if putting in a thicker innersole would help, but they are almost as much as the boot itself!

Are you sure "it was like walking barefoot" is not a bit of an exaggeration?

TBH, there's probably not much wrong with the Vibram soles, their main advantage is grip, I'd image the rest of the shoes sole construction isn't up to much but they are a budget shoe and I still don't think they'd be unfit for purpose. You might try some proper cushioned, walking socks if you don't already have some.
