Short-changed at Morrisons self-service till

Have just got back from shopping, my total was £8.94, I put a tenner in and got 6p in change!
Decided not to do anything about it as how could I prove I hadn't had the missing £1? And I didn't want to be stuck there for ages trying to resolve it for the sake of £1. I once had a machine chew up a £20 note and thought I was never going to get home ...
Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what did you do?
On the plus side, I picked up a penny from the pavement on the way home so now I'm only 99p down!

At home, I would have called them, so they'd check the machine , but would be convinced that I'd dropped the missing coin somewhere on the way home (probably in the car, where I've sometimes dropped money or card from my jeans pocket).0 -
i've had it happen to me, at both Morrisons and Waitrose - both times I called the customer service assistants over and they sorted out my correct change.0

Just ask the customer service assistant who will either - open the till and give you the difference or take it out the refunds till at customer service - where they make a note saying to give £x back to that till.
Self scans run out of money - esp the ones nearest the entrance to the group of the self scans as customers are too lazy to walk a few yards to use the others. Yet walk past these when they leave! What's that all about? I have friends that work for supermarkets and they don't understand this at all.
I had a fiver ripped to shreads at a self scan in Sainsburys and therefore it was still asking me for the £2.something for my shopping. I know they top up the coins daily, the notes, weekly - hence why you may see some selfscans closed at the end of the week. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Your money your choice I know.
It may only be £1 but I would have called someone over.0 -
I've had it the other way where instead of giving me a £5 note they've given me a £10 note. I assume because they've put them in the wrong slot.0

I had it happen to me in Morrisons with a £20 note that I put in to pay and it didnt even register any money and swallowed my £20 note! There was no way I was leaving without that but the assistant sorted it although it took a while, it's put me off using morrisons self service tills againAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00

Did you complain about being long-changed?
Well, it would be rectified once a customer bought £7 worth of shopping with a £20 note and got £8 in change.
Regarding missing change, when it has happened to me, the assistant opened the door and the missing coin(s) fell out as missed the chuteThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Machines are stupid, but Programmed. If you are staunch that it's done you out of a pound, the staff are inclined to believe you & can open the box to see where the engineering has failed & a coin missed where it should have gone.
Go back & be clear - you've checked & want your pound.
It may help to phone ahead so customer services can check the machine as soon as possible - I wonder how many others have been short-changed?!0 -

Agree with this.
I think the op needs to have more faith in themselves. I believe in the goodness of people , and the strength of my own integrity showing through.I expect to be believed.
It's unlikely the staff won't believe you if you have the courage of your convictions. Its just a pound.
It's possible the money had Got stuck in the machine , this happened to me with a note, but you need to deal with it at the time.0
