BT contract running out in Dec when can i organise move to another supplier?

Nearly at the point where I can give my months notice to BT, question being, thinking of going to SKY, when can I start this off, have I got to wait until my contract has finished (mid December?) or can I start the process now so there's little drop in service?

Many thanks

There won't be a drop in service. Your BT contract doesn't finish, it runs on until you give a month's notice. The switch should happen with no more than a few minutes downtime.
Typically a switch takes about 3 weeks, so you should be OK to commence a switch in about 10 days or so, depending on your minimum contract end date.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

  • I think BT will charge you for the router if you even give notice before your contract end date, so best to wait until then. The switch usually happens 2 weeks after you place your order, but you may need to allow a little extra for Christmas.

My Sky to PlusNet change took 9 working days (their promise being usually up to 10 working days).
