How best to invest 50k

It's probably a bit late in the day, as you appear to have made up your mind re possible investment options - but I was wondering why you weren't considering using the £50,000 as deposit on a house, as you are currently renting? Buying a house is probably the investment most of us make before we contemplate investing in anything else.
Not wanting to diss the decisions you've made - and my apologies if this has already been mentioned - but just curious. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
The house issue is something that will sort itself out in time (whole different topic).
So as far as iWeb vs Halifax, with the new price cut looming are there any advantages for choosing one over the other or shall I stick to plan A?0 -
So ignoring the longer term investment ...
You mentioned Santander 123 and lots mentioned / suggested having an emergency cash fund.
It seems while they have cut their interest rate - the 123 cash back on your utilities etc. and free access still make this a fair option for those funds not going "away for long term investment" or which you may want for your business at various points.
Or does anyone else know a better short term easy access emergency fund solution that beats the interest and cash back combo?I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!

I have a bigger cash pot available to me. The VLS venture is aside from an emergency fund, paying all debts and a mini blow out just for the sake of it....
My only concern/query is about the the best platform I use, unless of course anyone can suggest a valid alternative to VLS fund then I'm all ears....0 -
The Santander 123 was solely to house the funds between the 17/18 and 18/19 allowance periods.0

Thanks for the last post..... I have to say I'd probably favour Halifax as its a name I know. But that said before this thread id never heard of Vanguard either!?
I guess that's the true value of this forum, asking advice and reaping the wealth of knowledge from all of you who are so happy to help.
I'm pretty happy with the decisions ahead of me now, thank you all.0 -

But once you have put money in your ISA x 2 years, where will your general emergency fund be sat ongoing ?
I think you said you doesn't intend putting every last penny into Ida's or into your new venture ...And the two years isa allowances don't equal 50k allocated.I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!

I'm with Iweb, but the dividend payments come from HSDL, that's how little difference there is.Eco Miser

The full amount is 85k I know the thread was titled 50k but with the limits as they are I will invest a little more.
As for the emergency fund I've ear marked 15k, I've been looking at others threads regards circulating the cash thru 2x tesco accounts and BOS accounts as well as the ISA funds with Santander although I know the interest on the 123 has dropped.
When it comes to emptying the 123 then I'll take another look and see which option is best. I may keep the 123 and empty out the tesco and BOS accounts, have to see what the interest is like when it comes to it .
Hope that makes sense.0
