Hello !
Yesterday i have to pay a company in morocco. I called hsbc by phone. I asked the international payment team.
I say clearly 2 times i want to make a payment in morocco. He asked me if i had the template stored on my accounts. I say maybe lets have a look. He find someone.
He give me the 4 last digit and it was the same than the company i needed to pay for. So i say its them and the man pay without asking me reference.
The problem is he chose the wrong account! Somebody in the uk instead of the person im morocco!
But if somebody listen the conversation he will see without problem i told 2 times this is a payment for morocco!
So now the bank don't want refund! 2000 pounds lost! The payment where is done the man who received it is overdrawn and can't refund.
What your advice and how to proceed to make hsbc find a solution to repair their mistake and not in 2 months!
Thanks to the community!

If you believe that he did not pay due care and attention when you rang into the bank then draft a letter of complaint to them and see what they say, As a general rule if it hits an account that you know then you would have contact details and the bank would probably expect you to speak to the person about returning it, Seeing as he is overdrawn does not mean he will not have to give the money back and if he does not agree to do so then you would need to take legal action to recover it.
Even with any action the account you paid may only be able to afford £10.00 per week to you here so I would suggest speaking to them first and seeing what they plan to do to resolve this with you.
As for the bank if they can prove the staff member was negligent they may and should offer to correct this and if so would then go after the account that was paid, They may however say that there was no issue in communications between you and the staff member and there is no further action they will take.
I'd say ring the bank first and see if they will listen to the call.0 -
